Job Description:

We have partnered with a large Financial company to provide them with a Desktop Engineer III in Wilmington, DE. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and delivering the corporate desktop image as well as evaluating, packaging and distributing software to the desktop. Additionally the candidate will interface directly with multiple teams in order to analyze, develop, test, and deliver flexible desktop computing technologies in order to provide a high quality desktop experience for end users in the organization. Extensive knowledge with a software deployment and configuration management tool is needed, SCCM preferred tool. Technical training (certification) on Microsoft platform design and support are preferred.

Job Title: Desktop Engineer III

Department Summary:

IT Desktop Engineering Team's key responsibilities are to manage, update, architect, innovate and support the desktop experience to satisfy the growing needs of Client and its customers. This team is a component of IT Operations which is responsible for managing 24x7 system and business process monitoring and for insuring the continuous delivery of IT supported systems, infrastructure, applications, and services. This is accomplished by the Command Center, Desktop Services, and Desktop Strategy teams working together with all other IT teams to provide a high level of system availability and superior end user experiences which result in a high level of customer satisfaction.

Job Summary:

The Desktop Engineer III is responsible for creating, maintaining, and delivering the corporate desktop image as well as evaluating, packaging and distributing software to the desktop. The team also manages OS security, system patching maintenance, and driver updates. This individual will interface directly with multiple teams in order to analyze, develop, test, and deliver flexible desktop computing technologies in order to provide a high quality desktop experience for end users in the organization. The Desktop Engineer III is responsible for coordinating activities and communicating progress and status to other team members and management.

Essential Functions:

· Assist in the strategy recommendation, design and implementation of the Enterprise Desktop environment and corresponding policy development in order to meet current and future business needs.
· Ensure the integrity of the desktop experience provided to all internal users.
· Provide technical design and maintenance policies surrounding OS image development, updating and patching
· Research and understand new desktop technologies, develop designs, and plan for their implementation. This will include a variety of virtual computing technologies including VMware, Citrix, and Microsoft virtualization technology solutions.
· Provide solutions, technical project implementation, and 2nd and 3rd level support to IT Services and the Application Services teams.
· Architect desktop and laptop solutions to meet business requirements as necessary and to provide product recommendations as well as create desktop build specifications.
· Recommend, develop and maintain the tools for your team to be successful in supporting the environment
· Perform and compare installation performance against established performance objectives. Document findings and provide information to upper management.
· Mitigate risk to the desktop operating environment by working closely with security and desktop support
· Identify and resolve issues as they develop. Understand trends, initiate and manage corrective action on problems to prevent them from recurring related to the user desktop experience.
· Develop and maintain processes for IT Services to perform setup, installation, and configuration of desktop hardware and software.
· Develop relationships and policies with various business unit contacts to ensure standard software loads are tested and maintained at an enterprise level and ensure that custom software conforms to existing business unit standards.
· Participate in the establishment and maintenance of business relationships with key manufacturers, developers, suppliers, system integrators, and service providers to maintain awareness of new products and services in the hardware and software industry.
· Develop a process by which proposed software standards are evaluated and implement a certification process by which enterprise standards (hardware/software) are measured.
· Develop and maintain a software inventory system to track license information.
· Assist in the building and maintenance of application packages.
· Create and maintain applicable documentation.
· Maintain library of all desktop/laptop operating systems.
· Microsoft Patch management.
· Internal screen saver development and delivery.
· Microsoft group policy administration.
· Develop standards and procedures to maintain consistent practices
· Provide ownership and accountability of incidents related to desktop architecture
· Establish priority for application packaging tasks
· Manage OS and application updates
· Recommend and facilitate standard desktop administration practices

Experience & Qualifications:

· 5 to 10 years work experience in a technical capacity supporting desktop systems on an enterprise level.
· 8+ years in a medium to large sized distributed systems environment.
· 5+ years of experience using SMS and or SCCM as well as applications packaging solutions
· Developed and written desktop strategies for medium to large size companies.
· Proven experience managing the development, testing, and delivery of end user Desktop technologies in a highly available production environment consisting of 2,000 plus users
· Experience leading large scale technology upgrades/migrations (applications, operating systems, etc.) in a corporate environment
· Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

Education and/or Certifications:

· Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
· 5 to 10 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience specific to desktop methodology and Microsoft systems.
· Technical training (certification) on Microsoft platform design and support.

Technical skills and abilities:

· High level of competency in operating system image development, deployment and maintenance
· Possess advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications and operating systems.
· Excellent working knowledge of desktop management and implementation strategies.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of writing procedural documentation and technical papers, making presentations to management and peers.
· Strong knowledge with a software deployment and configuration management tool, SCCM preferred tool
· Good understanding of Active Directory and Group Policy.
· Experience packaging software for automated deployment.
· Good organizational and time management skills mandatory.
· Ability to multi-task and exercise independent judgment to solve problems quickly and completely.
