Do you think every child should have access to enriching and educational summers? InPlay (www.inplay.org) is an innovative non-profit whose mission is connecting disengaged, low-income children and youth with out-of-school programs to ignite their unique interests and talents. Parents use InPlay's online search solution to access a comprehensive list of local and affordable after school and Summer camp programs. Our services are promoted to local families through partnerships with school districts and cities.
We launched in May 2015 and currently serve the cities of Oakland, San Jose, Fremont and Fresno, CA. Plans are underway to expand nationally.
Position Description
We seek a responsible self-starter who is passionate about contributing to a successful, growing social enterprise. This is a dynamic position that will benefit from a person with strong communication skills, experience with organizing community initiatives, and a meticulous eye for detail.
The core responsibility for the Community Outreach Specialist will be ensuring that our website is populated with current and accurate after school and summer camp program information by connecting with providers and collecting their program information.
The Specialist will receive training and work in tandem with our existing Community Outreach team. This is a part-time independent contractor position, with the possibility of becoming full time as the role and the company develops.
Primary duties include:
- Contacting activity providers and building relations with them to acquire program information and collaborate to help them connect with families.
- Ensuring the quality and completeness of submitted program information and following up as needed.
- Clearly and accurately relaying information to our data entry team.
- Responding to external communications in a timely manner, documenting it in online systems, and marking tasks for follow-up as needed.
- Maintaining courtesy and compassion for the people you interact with, both internal to the company and in the community which you are serving.
- Participating in local community discussions around out-of-school time learning
- Thinking critically about our site and processes, actively looking for ways in which things can be improved. As a growing non-profit, we value new ideas, experimentation, and user feedback.
- Additional potential tasks in user research, web development, quality control, or marketing depending on ability and interest.
As a start-up, we have far more work than hands to do it and offer multiple opportunities for growth. An engaged person will find many fun projects and shape their role as well as the direction of the company.

Desired Qualifications:
Applicants should be able to work independently and have above-average writing and communication skills. Marketing or customer service experience would be beneficial, but not necessary. InPlay uses online applications such as Salesforce and Trello, so applicants who have familiarity with these servicesor similar online tools are preferred. We especially want to hear from you if you have worked or volunteered in any capacity to help underserved children and families.
Work Location and Schedule:
Schedule and location are flexible with a slight preference for candidates in Seattle, WA or the San Francisco Bay Area. Applicants should have their own computer that has a video-camera and audio capability, phone, and access to the internet to perform the work. Candidates should be available to work partially during the day in order to reach activity providers and team members during regular business hours. We work remotely and video-conference a few times a week.
