SUMMARY

People are overwhelmed with choices – and often unsure about where to find reliable, unbiased information. For more than 100 years, Better Business Bureau has been helping people find businesses, brands and charities they can trust. In 2018, people turned to BBB more than 190 million times for BBB Business Profiles on more than 5.2 million businesses and Charity Reports on 11,000 charities, all available for free at bbb.org. BBB offers its national and local consumer services online and in person. Through our efforts, BBB helps millions of people each year.

There are local, independent BBBs across the United States, Canada and Mexico, including BBB Serving the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern Coastal California (Golden Gate BBB), which was founded in 1927 and serves 13 counties.

The purpose of this position is to conduct outreach activities by creating more brand awareness for Better Business Bureau (BBB). This role will primarily be responsible for creating media relations, creating press releases, writing columns, creating and maintaining a social media calendar and content posts, giving presentations, engaging with charities, engaging with Chambers of Commerce, organizing seminars and events, and maintaining informational and educational material for consumers and businesses for outreach purposes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Works with marketing/communications department to plan speaking engagements (consumers and businesses), seminars, web series, podcasts, and other events (e.g., Secure ID Day) to promote BBB services.

• Creates and distributes press releases.

• Maintains online Events page, and posts related BBB releases and news on website as necessary.

• Answers media and public inquiries.

• Writes columns for local news outlets, and creates PSAs for television/radio stations.

• Seeks out potential leads for Business Development team.

• Conducts speeches and presentations as necessary.

• Develops and executes seminars, and other events such as Secure Your ID Day and social media tours with local colleges.

• Works on developing new partnerships and opportunities through programs such as BBB Charity Review and BBB Military Line.

• Represents BBB at various other events as needed.

• Posts, monitors and engages on BBB's various social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram and Snap Chat).

• Works with other departments on developing material for consumers, charities, and businesses.

• Creates and maintains editorial calendar, organizational outreach calendar and events calendar online; partnering with marketing/communications department on building a seamless multi-channel experience in respect to the editorial calendar.

• Updates staff members on upcoming outreach events, and other news and information as it relates to outreach activities.

• Assists in the creation of design-work and marketing material for outreach purposes.

• Maintains and establishes relationships with federal, state and local agencies in the marketplace.

• Maintains and establishes relationships with colleges, high schools, and other educational institutions.

• Maintains and establishes relationships with local charities that may qualify for accreditation.

• Establishes and maintains relationships with trade organizations, rotary clubs, chambers of commerce and other business-related organizations in the community for outreach and co-branded awareness opportunities.

• Assists in the creation of outreach videos for distribution on social media platforms and other mediums.

• Represents BBB in a positive, professional manner in all aspects of organizational work.

• Creates and maintains procedures as needed.

• Assists with other projects and duties as assigned.
