Position Responsibilities – Summary

 

My client has an immediate need for a full time Mainframe Systems Programmer to work at one of their customer sites in the Concord, NH area. This is a full-time onsite position with benefits. Please note, this onsite position is non-negotiable under any circumstances. If you are not interested in an onsite 40-hour workweek, this position is not for you.

This position requires strong internals experience in z/VM, z/Linux with an emphasis on installation, configuration and performance monitoring. Additional experience in WebSphere, z/OS, & CA Products would be a plus.

Keys to this Position – Priorities:

Must Haves

1)    z/VM internals:  VM Upgrades, guest machine creation, VM Secure

2)    z/Linux internals:  knowledgeable on the installation/upgrades/maintenance of RHEL 7.1

 

Pluses:

 

1)    WebSphere: knowledge of WebSphere 8.5 on z/Linux

2)    z/OS

3)    CA Products

Sample Responsibilities:

For z/Linux:

 

·         Install and configure WebSphere and HIS (IBM HTTP Server distributed with WebSphere)

·         Monitor WebSphere logs including JVM garbage collection logs

·         Monitor HTTP logs include errors reported in log files (access, error, plugin)

·         Manage disk space used by WebSphere applications

·         Archive log files (including to z/OS based tape)

·         Support use of SSSD/LDAP for Linux user authentication

·         Support use of LDAP to authenticate users of HTTP server

·         Manage LDAP servers running of z/OS which are used by Linux LDAP clients

 

For z/OS and z/Linux:

 

·         Develop and manage scripts and procedures to control Linux processes from the z/OS based job scheduler

·         Manage creation of certificate and certificate requests for z/OS and z/Linux environments

·         Configure HTTP servers on z/OS and Linux to use IBMs’ cryptographic hardware

·         Configure and manage interaction between z/OS and Linux environments using SSH/SFTP protocols

·         Capture and analyze packet traces to locate application problems

·         Manage access settings to Linux (and on z/OS OMVS files) using Access Control Lists

·         Install WAS for z/OS and install WAS maintenance – using both SMP/E and Installation Manager

·         Configure WAS Cells and test them out before turning them over to application team

·         Configure WAS Cells for Java Batch

·         Assist developers with issues they may have using any of the WAS Cells

·         Monitor for performance issues

·         Monitor space used and space available in UNIX file systems in use by WAS

Skills and Competencies:

·         Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or related technology, or equivalent experience

·         5 years of experience in IBM Mainframe technologies – Internals experience in z/VM & z/Linux

·         Knowledge of WebSphere 8.5 z/Linux a plus

·         Strong JAVA knowledge a plus

·         Ability to debug/trace system processes to identify problems

·         Ability to extrapolate performance numbers from SMF data

·         Proficient in Microsoft Excel including graphing and data points
