Job Description
The Database Administrator is a member of the database administration team providing 24x7 operational support for databases in a corporate datacenter. This person strives for technical and operational excellence, is sought after by co-workers both inside and outside the team for there expertise. This includes, but not limited to: database and storage planning, database implementation, maintenance coordination, ongoing configuration and management of all database hosts and instances within enterprise.
overview:
performing Oracle database tuning and administration including security management, instance performance monitoring, tablespace utilization, schema object management, database capacity planning, "bottlenecks" and "offensive"SQL activity monitoring and resolution
Trouble shoot database performance problems
Experience with logical and physical design and administration of multiple Oracle databases for both real-time and batch applications: design experience should includeVLDB -Very Large Data Bases (500+tables, 1TB or larger) and table partitioning experience.Perform routine database monitoring and maintenance tasksAssisting developers with application design and performance tuning
Troubleshoot and correct database issues within the time constraints specified in applicable SLA's
Install and maintaining (patch) database software
Create, backup and recover databases
Manage service desk tickets and or the Database Administration Service desk ticket queue
Participate in 24x7 on call duty rotation as needed
Coordinating testing with other development groups and operations, identifying appropriate level of testing and ensure that testing is complete before signing off produce technical documentation related to the databases with senior staff guidanc
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
6+ years database administration experience, with at least 2 in a 24x7x365 environment
Solid UNIX administration skills (Linux experience) required
Experience with High availability database solutions and architectures such as Oracle 9i RAC, Oracle DataGuard, and so forth
Experience with EMC storage
Experience with RMAN (Recovery Manager) and one of the major backup packages (Legato networker, Veritas, NetBackup etc)
Experience with Database disaster recovery methodologies (e.G. DataGuard)
Strong SQL and PL?SQL skills
Perl and shell scripting
