The Senior Account Executive (SAE) position's key metrics include a consistent level of client service that is results driven. An SAE will provide strategy counsel, communications program management with execution on all deliverables across media social channels, successfully managing results from junior staff to ensure quality of materials is at the highest end of client satisfaction, regularly seek opportunities to be involved with new business development, and the ability to exercise sound discretion and judgment in every aspect of your tenure with us. Minimum requirements include at least 4-7 years public relations from the agency and/or corporate side, including experience in and knowledge of various sectors of technology such as hardware, software, digital media, and consumer devices/services/applications. The SAE has solid organization skills, is flexible/adaptable and does what it takes to execute the job at hand, gives critical feedback and is equally open to feedback from others, and developing management and mentoring experience. Client, media, social media and analyst relations are proven top skills by now, and the SAE also has outstanding verbal and written communication skills which are beginning to be regularly viewed by clients and peers as strategic. SAEs demonstrate the ability to work well with others in a team-oriented work environment, including different personalities and work styles, and coaching/motivating junior team members. we expect to see the SAE, and above levels, demonstrate their unique point-of-view and their style of counselor is beginning to take shape with nurturing from your direct manager and senior executives in the firm.
The SAE is positioned as the account supervisor (AS) or director's most critical support person and is responsible for executing and overseeing all deliverables of the program including tactics, strategy and counsel. Of utmost importance in this role is to consistently demonstrate the ability to guide your team to meet all deliverables on time and to our standard of operating excellence . An SAE serves as a main client contact along with his or her supervisor or director. SAEs will regularly seek to increase knowledge by actively participating in professional development opportunities within our organization and outside the firm. Before being promoted to AS, SAEs must successfully master all elements within this job description, demonstrate basic attributes and abilities to perform the AS job, and an AS position must be available in the office based on headcount and business need.
Responsibilities
PR Program Results and Account Team Management
• Generate high quality communications results based on each of the assigned client's goals and show alignment with the communications tactics that match communications strategy.
• All levels of editorial and analyst contact including business press; media and blogger relations mastery and forum relations management including SEO and social engagement strategy to clients based on knowledge and years of experience from working with media, bloggers and analysts
• Supervision, motivation, and mentoring of junior team members' (AE, AAE, interns) work to achieve results and participation in agency mentoring programs as appropriate
• Proven ability to manage up to senior agency leads to help formulate strategy and align with team resources and the ability to execute campaign deliverables
• Provide direct feedback, coaching, or constructive criticism to team members, involving
Team Leader/manager if necessary
• Act as an office "leader" – be visible, present, attend and be active in company meetings, training sessions, task forces, events, etc. and host brown bag training sessions for junior members when needed
• Focus on achieving targeted results, not necessarily the process or details behind it
• Achieve high volume, top quality and well-positioned coverage on a regular basis
• Advanced technical writing of user stories, messaging, backgrounders, collateral and other documents
• Excellent press release writing and placement on a regular basis
• Writing of strategic communications program documents including tour and launch plans
• Demonstrate mastery of all communications programs and regularly coach other junior members on the process, hold them accountable, and act as backup for helping execute those programs when needed
• Full press tour strategy, pitching, management and attendance, including client coaching and strategy
• Conversant in multiple client technologies/market segments, with the ability to convince or turn around an editor to write a client story that the reporter/editor/analyst would otherwise
not have believed in
• Presentation outline development, content and flow for clients as needed
• Tracking own time within ClickTime program by each deadline to help manage client budgets
• Other tasks as assigned
Client Service Management and Business Development
• Support and help drive all new business development efforts, including but not limited to research, outreach, presentations, dry runs, and attending pitches along with other team members; prove that the SAE is a winning element in the new business development process
• Ensure that all client deliverables are met on or before deadline
• Demonstrated intuition toward clients/politics; ability to work well in sensitive or demanding client situations
• Bring your creativity and your "out-of-the-box" ideas with all client and new business issues or opportunities
• Understanding of the big picture and able to anticipate problems, not just react to them
• Continuously add new ideas and value to the communications strategy, process and the
client's business
• One of the primary client interfaces along with account supervisors or directors; become a regular go-to person within the agency and consistent high performer across both San Francisco and New York offices
• Daily client relations up to the CEO level, including executive coaching and reporting; daily strategic counsel on a variety of program activities; running client and team meetings
• Contribute to client product and company positioning efforts (i.e. with news/releases, for tours, etc.)
• Develop industry relationships with companies, media, analysts and peers
• Maintain billability level required of SAEs (approximately 80%) and several accounts based on size of retainer
• Demonstrate intuition and self-awareness to identify areas for self improvement and actively seek coaching to improve upon these areas
