Crawford Group (www.crawfordgroup.com) is seeking a full time Packaging Art Project Manager for client based in Santa Cruz, CA. The Project Manager will assist in the production of consumer packaging artwork, specifically during the increased seasonal workload offset by the new product development releases.
Administrative:
Attend team meetings as necessary—usually 1 hour per week for new products, ½ hour for smaller tactical projects (tacticals are repurposed products)
Prepare weekly status report, share with stakeholders
Track translation expenses
Gather components from internal teams:
Major parts: Sleeve, RPET, inner boxes or other items with print on them
SKU matrix listing regions, box languages and countries (from Project Manager/Product Manager)
Die lines (from Packaging Engineer (PE)
PN/AM matrix for all pieces with print that SCZ needs to create (from PE)
Compliance markings (from compliance group's marking document)
Photography (from Brand photo mgr/ID (open CWR for new photos), or obtain old photos to re-use (some may require touchup by ID), develop shot list with Product Manager) Marketing copy (from Marketing and Marcom)
Technical copy (from Product Manager)
Third-party logo art and statements (from Legal and/or Product Manager)
Copyright block copy (write draft for Legal to review)
Misc: Gradients, arrows, background textures (usually from ID)
Create artwork:
Project Manager
Negotiate AW deadline
Communication changes that may affect AW delivery schedule
Ask for help obtaining SKU lists, die lines, other project questions
Industrial Design
Get sketches or ask ID to provide direction to designer for any new design requirements such as gradient backgrounds, full bleeds
Review die line markouts and other special considerations (glue, folds)
Photo retouching and finalizing for package, or get renders when photos can't be completed in time
Approval of models for photography
Alert Brand photo mgr when ID may need to work with photographer on shoots
Direct Graphic Designer
Provide designer with PN/AM matrix and die lines as necessary
Provide approved marketing copy and tech specs
Provide photography as necessary Provide markups for changes to layouts Product Management
Obtain Primer and/or PRD
Meet for overview of project and requirements for artwork
Get product models for photo shoots when needed
Get approvals for photos, and content
Get approval on final layouts
Marketing and MarCom
Provide early comp layout for copyfitting
Touch base regularly for updates on copy availability
Get final copy
Legal and Patents
Send product primer to patents early in process, provide both code name and real name (if known)
Alert Legal if third party logos will be used, also if we are making any claims such as "waterproof" that may require research
Manage translations for some packages
Submit copy to SDL based on SKU matrix
Manage special Arabic translation process
Send for reviews with language reviewers, gain approval
Provide to designer with English equivalent
Manage pre-ECO approvals for artwork:
Legal
Patents
Product management
Brand
Industrial Design (for new layouts and photos)
Regional language review for non-US layouts when required
Complete artwork:
Review final layouts for accuracy
Submit to ECO mgr with list of countries for each layout, names of pre-approvers
RATE:
D.O.E., as w2 employee of Crawford Group (benefits available)
LOCATION:
Half time onsite at clients' office in Santa Cruz, CA, half time offsite/remote/WFH/virtual/telecommute. No phone calls, please.
DURATION/HOURS:
ASAP - one year.
