Position Summary:
My client is transforming the way consumer audio products interact with the Cloud, creating new experiences for connecting people to what they love the most. They are imagining new data driven experiences, designing new services, building software architecture and infrastructure, and scaling their solutions to serve millions of users.
They are looking for a top-notch API Architect with impeccable technical skills, a strong ability to collaborate and a passion for excellence.
Responsibilities:
Their team is building a consumer-scale Microservices architecture to support their connected audio products, and central to that strategy is the design of APIs. Since nearly every Microservice will export an API, they are looking for an API Architect who can identify the most successful design principles; codify these in a style guide; build API culture throughout the engineering organization; moderate API Design Review sessions; and work out performance and permissions challenges in a large Microservices environment.
One example of an essential API is the User Identity Service, which encompasses OAuth protocols and identification of users, system permissions, session management, entity relationships, and account management. This service is the foundation for all future applications and services.
There is also relationship to the platform's IoT area, where interfaces like device state structure; messaging structure; and namespace definitions must be applied across our platforms and products.
As the API Architect, you will have the following responsibilities:
· Own the corporate REST API style guide and API design review process
· Work with individual engineering teams to learn and adhere to the API Process
· Consult with various engineering groups to determine API requirements, and explore existing models as inspiration
· Create API definitions using Swagger (OpenAPI), post to the API Gateway, and write documentation for the API Portal
· Define client libraries to simplify access and usage of the APIs
· Present and train various engineering groups in the usage of the APIs
· Take ownership of corporate standards for non-REST interfaces such as pub/sub messaging and device state
Required Skills and Competencies:
The ideal candidate has worked in a range of software development environments and is comfortable in a fast-paced agile environment.
· Strong familiarity with various cloud-based APIs, Microservice architecture, IoT, Big Data and client scripting environments
· Great listening and coaching skills; enjoys interaction with engineers
· Experience in software architecture, building and maintaining (commercial or open source) software platforms and large-scale data infrastructures.
· A strong team player, able to quickly triage and troubleshoot complex problems
· Experience with cloud resource platforms such as Amazon AWS, Google, Azure
· Bachelors of Science in software engineering, computer science, or other appropriate field; advanced degrees preferred
