Position Summary:
My client is seeking is seeking a results-oriented Engineering Director who is self-motivated and able to lead a team to solve complex challenges in a collaborative environment that is full of A+ players who love innovating, executing, and delivering.
The ideal candidate will thrive in and help drive a fast-paced environment. The candidate should have hands-on development experience with complex enterprise software, ideally with high-availability, distributed systems and databases, have worked with agile software development processes, have a passion for quality, and possess strong communications skills.
He/she will report to the SVP of Engineering and will be based in Cambridge, MA.
Responsibilities:
· Manage the engineering group in Cambridge with a focus on the core database platform
· Work with the engineering Director for the European SQL team to ensure the overall product meets requirements with quality
· Work with Product Management to align priorities and deliverables
· Act as scrum master for multiple scrum teams
· Ensure on-time, quality delivery
· Help with staffing as we grow the team
· Participate in design reviews
Required Skills and Competencies:
· 5+ years’ experience with infrastructure/platform/distributed systems software – Preferably out of a software firm
· 5+ years’ experience with high-availability enterprise software
· 5+ years’ experience with C++
· 3+ years’ experience with Databases (SQL or NoSQL)
· 3+ years management experience – Will be managing around 12 people – Hands-on Manager role.
· Experience managing teams using Agile
· Experience with continuous integration and test driven development
· Ability to dive deep into technical issues.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent.
Pluses:
· Cloud / SaaS experience a strong plus
· Experience with Java and Python a strong Plus
