Sr. Manager, Public Relations, is responsible for managing the internal and external corporate and product communications programs internationally. The position requires a strong background in public relations, marketing, media relations and social media. This manager will work closely with the Vice President of Corporate Marketing and Chief Marketing Officer to ensure Blue Coat successfully executes each initiative on a global scale.
This role is responsible for generating communication initiatives that promote Blue Coat's point of view as well as campaign and product messages. This person will work with product marketing, corporate marketing and the executive team to develop the initiatives.
This position is located in Sunnyvale, CA.
Key responsibilities:
* Partner with the Vice President, Corporate Communications and Product Marketing leads to develop a comprehensive, strategic communications plan that positions Blue Coat as a leader in its respective market
* Produce (identify, research, write) and distribute a steady, strategic stream of news releases and other Blue Coat-brand-building, thought-leadership pieces (ex., op-eds) for print and electronic news media.
* Manage a calendar of blog contributions by Blue Coat team members
* Package initiatives into story lines for the global agencies to pitch, and speaker notes for spokespeople. Ensure that information is provided that allows agencies to develop a local angle.
* Develop and manage key metrics for all Media/Public Relations, Social Media and Thought Leadership initiatives; develop follow-up actions as appropriate
* Manage the relationship with the global agencies to ensure consistent global coverage that meets targets
* Coordinate the approval, timing and approach of external communications to the media with the global agencies
* Manage issues and potential crises from a media relations perspective
* Ensure that business leaders are aware of and prepared to address significant press coverage relevant to the Blue Coat business
Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
* At least 10 years of related experience in successfully managing public relations/media relations and/or public affairs support programs
* Outstanding ability to understand and synthesize complex material into clear and concise news material
* Demonstrated knowledge of Social Media and how Social Media can/should be used to further the organization´s business goals
* Familiarity with a variety of external communications vehicles, practices, metrics and technologies
* Demonstrated ability to think analytically
* Excellent reasoning and decision-making skills
* Consultative experience with business leaders at all levels
* Excellent strategic communication planning, implementation and measurement/evaluation skills
* Project management skills and experience
* Intercompany and external professional networking skills
* Demonstrated ability to interact with and influence all levels of management
* Demonstrated issues & crisis management experience
* Understanding of global, cultural and diversity issues and sensitivities
Desired Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
* Knowledge of web security and WAN Optimization markets (Blue Coat)
* Ideal candidate will possess direct B2B security and/or networking experience at previous organizations
Required Education (including degree):
Bachelors or equivalent degree in journalism, marketing or related field.
Other Requirements:
Periodic international travel required (for company meetings, media visits, professional gatherings, etc.)
