Shutterfly's Creative Services team is responsible for the visual and written expression of the Shutterfly brand. We are committed to designs that are effective for the business and compelling to the customer.
The Art Director position requires a talent with strong experience in CRM (e-mails) and DM (direct marketing print) with a proven track record in design for direct response. The Art Director develops strategies to scale effective design over campaigns and seasons, bringing innovation, freshness and outstanding direction to visual communication that speaks to the Shutterfly brand. As an expert-level individual contributor the Art Director's "hands on" design work is important, and is guided by the company's creative design strategies, as well as by the direction of the creative lead. The Art Director contributes to the development of those strategies and then brings them to life by working with designers on individual projects/campaigns. The Art Director possesses masterful insight into the direct response nature of the e-commerce business and can articulate by thought, word and design, the rationale and business logic behind each design, and how they consistently add up to a strongly branded experience.
Responsibilities:
Art directs by setting standards and oversight on the work of a team of marketing designers, bringing experience, metric insight and customer-centric leverage to design for the various Shutterfly marketing channels.
Develop frameworks, templates, design direction and methods of execution that produces effective and compelling creative communications that exceed business objectives.
Creates communication, design standards and processes for the Marketing design
team and cross-functional marketing teams to align cross-functional and cross-channel campaigns.
Qualifications
Must have a strong background in direct response design, specifically CRM (e-mail), DM (print) where the portfolio shows effective work that exhibits innovation and a sophisticated design aesthetic.
Must be able to communicate and exercise superior verbal and written skills as to how their art direction drives business objectives.
Must have a strong and demonstrable practice for design and art direction that demonstrates the use of principles, metrics and customer insight to produce outstanding creative work.
Must be able to lead brainstorms and high-concept meetings to develop and facilitate innovative design.
Can work collaboratively in a team environment, and works well with direction from the Creative Lead or Creative Director.
Is self-directed and can manage oversight on multiple projects and campaigns of the marketing design team.
Possesses expert knowledge of computers and the Internet—including both PC and Macintosh platforms. These may include, but are not limited to: Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator, In-Design, ImageReady, Macromedia Fireworks, and have an understanding of the basics of HTML and the requirements that HTML places upon design. The Art Director can mentor others on enhanced use of tools.
Knows how design works effectively within an online user experience and how marketing design works to enhance the customer experience.
Has a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from a 4-year University or College of Art or equivalent and 7-10+ years work experience in this or a related field.
Has 3+ years experience working as a Art Director at an ad agency, web design firm,
e-commerce company or design firm.
