SAS-R Infrastructure Sr Tech Engineer position for Travelers - Hartford, Connecticut

SUMMARY:

The Travelers Operations, Architecture & Infrastructure Systems organization is seeking an experienced & motivated Senior Technology Engineer to assist in leading the design, implementation & ongoing support of our Analytic platforms which includes SAS, JMP, R & Salford Systems. 

PRIMARY DUTIES:

-Coordinate the implementation of Analytic platform w/ users, developers & operations personnel.

- Manage installation, configuration, & troubleshooting of Analytic platforms including vendor software packages, databases, software, user applications & hardware.

- Oversee vendor software related to support & license agreements.

- Provide IT & business partners consultation on using Analytic platform effectively & efficiently.  Serve as an advocate for Analytics technologies.  Be a thought-leader in the Analytics space. 

- Assist in managing licensing & track finances for the supported Analytics platforms.

- Oversee the day to day work of small work teams (onshore & offshore) supporting the Analytic platforms.

- Lead small to medium sized infrastructure projects w/ a team spanning multiple areas & disciplines, utilizing project management concepts & best practices

- Follow all enterprise change management processes.

- Builds, leverages, & maintains effective relationships across technical & business community.  Can effectively present & communicate w/ various levels of the organization concerning support & strategic activities. 

 

OTHER:

Technical Knowledge

- 5+ years of experience working w/supporting Analytic tools

- Experience working w/ Analytic product suites such as SAS

- Expert level knowledge of Linux & Windows. Knowledge w/ scripting installation & maintenance procedures.

- Creates an atmosphere where business partner issues are dealt w/ professionally & in a timely manner.

- Demonstrates sound analytical & diagnostic skills dealing w/ issues that are loosely defined & where information is available but must be further manipulated.

- Responsibilities are assigned w/ latitude for setting priorities & decision making in accordance w/ business client priorities.

- Maintains effective partnerships across the department, & w/ business customers, & is able to provide management w/ substantive input & influence peers & project staff through an inclusive style & recognition of abilities & knowledge Planning & Project Management. 

- Understands & has input to the budget process & is responsible for expense control of assigned projects.  Demonstrates sound cost-effectiveness.

 

Education/Experience

- Typically has a minimum of 5+ years of hands on experience in information technology infrastructure, w/ strong aptitude w/: software/solution development/delivery, Business Intelligence, Analytics, Big Data, Information Delivery, High Performance Computing, &/or Databases.

- Have a deep understanding of capabilities & the direction of technology & applications, coupled w/ an in-depth knowledge of the technology required & the needs of business environment necessary to support assigned application/function &/or projects

- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree a plus.

 

Business Acumen

- Able to understand a 3 year Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) & Return on Investment (ROI) model for Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA).

- Have the ability to interact & communicate both written & verbally w/ the Business Head & their Senior Management team. 

- Strong written skills are required in the documentation of policies, procedures & standards as they apply to security. 

- Must be able to help motivate team members & project owners to successful completion of required projects.

- Ability to create metrics, presentations & other documents as needed.

- Have the ability to manage & prioritize responsibilities through the effective use of time management & organizational techniques. 

- Must be flexible & be able to manage several projects simultaneously.

Must be able to work through cross-departmental situations, track performance, communicate expectations, anticipate & recognize problems &, when appropriate, escalate appropriately.
