Stewardship Director

POSITION SUMMARY

Want to be part of a project that will literally change the world? And work with a group of astronauts? Want to work with a great group of people in an entrepreneurial environment? Want to be in on the ground floor and to help shape an innovative effort? The B612 Foundation is looking for a Stewardship Director to work with donors and prospective donors, engaging and educating them in its quest to develop the first privately funded exploration into deep space. Our goal is to map the orbits of asteroids to protect Earth from a potential collision and share that data with the the world.

The Stewardship Director will have major responsibility for cultivation of donors in our Founding Circle Level ($25,000 and higher) and work on efforts to cultivate new donors and steward potential donors. The Stewardship Director will work most specifically with the Vice President for External Relations, managing and growing a program to attract potential donors, engage current donors, and encourage increased gifts from current donors. The Stewardship Director will utilize our growing network of science, technology, entertainment and space leaders to expand our relationships with supporters. Duties will evolve as the organization grows and deepens its donor base. With offices based out of the Silicon Valley in California, this is a full-time position. There are opportunities to work with colleagues, work at home where feasible, and attend events as appropriate. This is an ideal position for an independent worker and self-starter, and one who knows the values of cultivating relationships.

ABOUT B612 FOUNDATION

Asteroids of various sizes are continually passing close by Earth, while occasionally actually impacting our planet. The B612 Foundation wants to find these asteroids before they find us. We are at the beginning of a new era in exploration where private organizations can now carry out grand and audacious space missions previously only possible by governments. The B612 Foundation, a 501(c) 3 organization, aims to build, launch, and operate the first privately funded deep space mission a space telescope to be placed in orbit around the Sun.

The orbits of the inner solar system where Earth lies are populated with a half million asteroids larger than the one that struck Tunguska in 1908, and the vast majority are uncharted. These asteroids contain the original building blocks of the Solar System, are goals for future human exploration, and may contain valuable raw materials. These asteroids can also pose the threat of cataclysmic impact on Earth. Taking advantage of opportunities and dealing with threats require not only knowing the current location of each asteroid, but also where each asteroid will be in the future. The B612 Foundation will create the first comprehensive, dynamic map of our inner solar system that will show the current and future locations and trajectories of these Earth crossing asteroids.

Mapping the great unknown of the inner solar system is the first step to opening up this next frontier. The B612 Foundation believes that humanity can harness the power of science and technology to protect the future of civilization on this planet, while extending our reach into the solar system. Eventually our civilization must accomplish this task. What better time to start than now?
