Knowledge Engineer - Santa Clara, California
Summary
The role of the Knowledge Engineer (KE) is to manage the discovery, creation, and dissemination of knowledge in the organization. The KE reports to the Director of Training, and supports the learning of employees, partners and customers worldwide. The KE focuses on the knowledge management process and the technology that will facilitate the process. The KE works with support resources and others in the organization to determine the most needed knowledge. The KE is the gatekeeper of the knowledge management system and manages the flow of knowledge in and out of the knowledge base.
Key Responsibilities
The candidate will work closely with Engineering, Quality Assurance, Technical Support, Technical Publications, Training and Product Management teams to identify project requirements develop project plans, and schedules, write, and validate completed technical materials.
Expertise in one of several areas, including: training, technical documentation and/or technical product support is critical.
Development of, or manage the development by the owners of, knowledge; ensuring that topics are being researched and solutions are being written.
Work with the members of Technical Support, Training, Professional Services, members of advanced support groups, and satellite support personnel to collect and standardize relevant knowledge.
Manage content, ensuring quality and promoting and coordinating knowledge sharing.
Collect product specifications, instructional information and other related data.
Manage, refine and maintain self-service knowledge base.
Create and maintain documentation templates.
Develop material in accordance with publication standards.
Identify, collect, write, proofread, edit and approve documentation.
Provide technical coaching and mentoring to others involved in the knowledge management process.
Coordinate documentation development plans for completion within a release schedule.
Managing organizational taxonomy within the knowledge management system.
Manage the archiving of out-of-date knowledge.
Assist management in creating and selling the knowledge management vision.
Assist in educating knowledge management participants in use of the knowledge management technology and in the knowledge management methodologies and business benefits.
Provide recommendations on how to improve the knowledge management process, communicate the process and to increase use of the knowledge management system.
Stay current with technology trends within the industry
Skills and Requirements
5+ years experience in classroom technical training
5+ years course development
5+ years working with network authentication devices
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related
Network certification a plus
Highly developed written skills
Highly developed presentations skills
Extensive work history developing technical courseware materials
Experience in developing materials for delivery in a variety of formats including live/virtual classroom, downloadables, online e-learning, etc.

LDAP
TCP/IP
