Salary: Starting salary is $44,635 - $52,832 depending on education and experience with increases to $65,713 based on professional development units as it relates to the current Lower Columbia College Faculty Agreement.

Description of Position

Lower Columbia College is seeking a dynamic, energetic Math Instructor to work in a small, dedicated, progressive, and innovative department. The position is responsible for teaching the full spectrum of math courses (basic arithmetic through calculus) with an emphasis on transfer level courses such as statistics, trigonometry, and business calculus. The LCC Math Department has seven full time faculty and nine adjunct faculty.

This position offers exciting opportunities including participation in regional K12 partnerships and outreach activities for increasing interest in STEM program for K12 students, attending regional and national conferences, collaborating with faculty outside the mathematics department, teaching interdisciplinary studies in a learning community, and making a positive difference and influence within our community.

Duties Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

• Impart expertise, creativity, excitement, and enthusiasm into the teaching of mathematics

• Effectively prepare and present course content to a diverse student population with various learning styles and abilities

• Effectively incorporate instructional technologies in course delivery, both face-to-face and online

• Teach three sections (15 credits) each quarter

• Provide quality instruction, including day and evening hours

• Provide individualized support to promote student success

• Provide academic advising to students

• Assess, evaluate, and document student learning and achievement of course outcomes

• Perform ongoing program and college assessment and accreditation activities

• Maintain currency of course content and materials, including course syllabus

• Effectively and actively interact with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as part of an educational team

• Engage in department and college activities and meetings

• Participate in professional development activities

• Establish and maintain office hours and be available for student consultation

• Communicate effectively in oral and written form

• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Master���s Degree in mathematics or a Master's Degree in a related field with a minimum of 30 graduate credits in mathematics

• Teaching philosophy that is student centered and focused on learning, and demonstrated commitment to this philosophy

• Ability to communicate and collaborate with faculty and staff, and to educate and inspire students from diverse backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated successful teaching experience in the field of mathematics at a community college

• Experience with using technology to enhance student learning

• Willingness to take a leadership role in areas of educational and professional expertise

• Experience working with a Learning Management System such as Canvas or Blackboard

Candidates called to an interview will be expected to conduct a classroom presentation on a discipline related topic. When scheduling the interview, candidates will be provided further details on the presentation requirements. Candidates called for interview may be reimbursed up to $200 to help defray travel costs.
