SOA Solution Architect

Location – Raleigh, NC

Duration – 6 months

Interview process- Phone/Skype

 

Client is seeking a Solution Architect contractor for a 6 month engagement. The Solution Architect will be responsible for creating the overall application architectures, application component designs, and systems integration and implementations for several DMV systems undergoing updates and or redesign.

The individual in this position has experience in design, implementation, and deployment of software applications within Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) in large government organizations. This individual is knowledgeable in all aspects of system integration and has a working knowledge of network systems and hardware. The individual is confident in developing requirements and design specifications for new and existing applications.

The individual in this position serves as a leader in the integration of solutions and application design. The Solution Architect will work closely with Client's Enterprise Architects in designing and integrating overall solutions.

 

Role responsibilities:

 • Analyze, define, and document requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware and operating system environment, interfaces with other systems, internal and external checks and controls, system inputs and outputs

• Architect solution options in accordance with State and Client Enterprise Architecture and security and emerging SOA standards.

• Review the high-level application architecture options with business clients and other technical experts.

• Define and document the final application architecture

• Work with the developers to design the components/object/data structure of the application

• Coordinate new system development to ensure it is consistent and well integrated with existing application systems and COTS solutions

• Analyze and estimate feasibility and compatibility with hardware and other programs

• Interface with the Enterprise Architects and provide ongoing status

• Consult with clients to prototype, refine, test, and debug applications to meet needs

• Write and maintain documentation to describe software infrastructure and maintain changes and corrections

• Write documentation or review documentation written by others that describes implementation and operating procedures.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

• MUST have hands-on experience designing and developing both Microsoft and Mainframe based Web Services

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in advanced technologies

• Minimum of 4 years of experience architecting enterprise, technical solutions

• Strong, demonstrated application design and development skills (object-oriented analysis and design techniques)

• Microsoft SQL Server 2012 preferably including MDS, DQS & SSIS

• .NET and BizTalk design and development experience

• Business/Consumer-facing web applications and Web Services

• Portal/web services design/development

• Demonstrated experience in working with external technology vendors

 

Additional Preferred Skills: 

• Experience on large government technology solution projects specifically in support of a State Motor Vehicle Organization

• Experience architecting solutions in accordance with State and/or Client's Enterprise Architecture, security, and project management standards and methodologies.

• Strong application, information, and integration architecture skills

• Comprehensive IT analytical skills and strong problem-solving analytical skills

• Working knowledge of various multi-user, multi-tasking operating systems/platforms (Unix, Windows, z/OS)

• Legacy, mainframe application modernization experience

• Ability to effectively adapt to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs

• Ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer confidence in ability to deliver to business needs.

• Strong analytical and conceptual skills; ability to create and advise on solutions for various project needs

• Ability to assess project needs and determine resource requirements, provide estimations to meet solution objectives.

• Comprehensive knowledge of various software development methodologies (including agile techniques)

• Solid written, oral communications and presentation skills
