Director, Demand Generation

Message Systems, a global company with offices in North America, Europe and Asia/Pacific, is seeking a qualified candidate to join its marketing staff in its San Francisco Bay Area office. As a member of the Message Systems team, the person entering this position will be part of a fast-paced, energetic group of technology professionals who are transforming the future of digital messaging.
As a key member of the marketing team, this position will serve as the single point of responsibility for driving programs that deliver our lead generation objectives, inclusive of analyzing results and implementing changes to improve effectiveness. This will include developing and implementing effective integrated marketing campaigns that involve email, direct mail, webinars, trade events, online advertising, social media and/or other methods of communication to drive qualified leads.
This position will demand excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills in collaborating with Sales, Marcom, Product Marketing and others. Frequent interaction with company executives, sales leaders and other associates will be required.
The Demand Generation Director must have a strong understanding and background in direct marketing, especially online and social media. The individual will need to be data savvy, understand database marketing principles, and be capable of applying segmentation to reach different markets/segments (enterprises vs. carriers; retail vs. financial) and audience types/levels (business vs. technical, senior vs. line mgr). Equally important will be the individual´s ability to match targeting criteria to different channels and data sources (internal and external) and to analyize comparative results to improve performance.
The individual must be comfortable assisting in the creation of a range of concepts for each project, reconciling differing perspectives and creating consensus without losing sight of his/her primary demand generation mission. A consistently positive attitude and strong working relationship with others will be required. The person in this role should thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and demonstrate the ability to grow with the company in assuming higher level responsibilities over time.
The Demand Generation Director will report directly to the SVP, Marketing, but work closely with Director of Product Marketing in defining campaigns and the Director of Marcom in executing them. The position may involve supervision of others. Moderate travel will be required, including international destinations at times.
Responsibilities
The position will entail a mix of strategic and tactical responsibilities. Hands-on involvement and personal contribution will be required.
Working with SVP, Marketing, Product Marketing, Marcom and other stakeholders, design, manage and optimize lead generation and nurture programs to meet pipeline, acquisition sales and client penetration targets.
Develop and execute nurture campaigns from concept to execution, results analysis and reporting. Specifically, formalize the nurture program strategy with a workable segmentation scheme for more relevant communications that improve engagement and advance the sale.
Perform A/B testing on elements of marketing mix to continuously improve campaign effectiveness.
Manage the development and implementation of cost effective keyword search campaigns.
Execute pre and post-event marketing campaigns, where appropriate, to include print advertising, direct mail announcements and/or email promotions.
Report on project status, milestones and campaign metrics on a regular basis by providing data, insights and analysis of marketing programs.
Work cross-functionally with Marketing, Product Mgt, Sales and our PR agency (Atomic currently) to identify brand and product priorities that can be promoted.
Participate with Director of Revenue Operations in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of our lead generation processes based on qualification criteria, engagement measures and conversion results. Actively participate in the development of new policies and procedures to streamline processes, improve analytical capabilities and increase availability of business intelligence, including enhancements to progressive profiling.
Work closely with Marketing and Sales to procure and import high quality lists and/or base record data to enhance the quality and coverage of our Salesforce database.
Identify gaps in current clients´ product ownership and initiate up-sale initiatives to our client base.

Flexibility to handle shifting priorities and tight timelines; comfort with ambiguity and defining your own role in a developing organization.
Self-starter with strong work ethic, commitment and sense of purpose.
Out-of-the-box thinking in overcoming obstacles, finding consensus solutions and creating opportunities; a true guerilla marketer.
Demonstrated Skills
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and attributes:
5 or more years in direct marketing with specific work experience in a lead generation capacity.
Superior written, oral and presentation skills.
Working knowledge of the industry, CRM and marketing automation tools experience (Salesforce and Marketo a plus).
Knowledge of sales strategies and solution selling techniques.
Online or email marketing experience a strong plus; active user of social media highly desired.
Proven conceptualization, and project management skills.
Ability to handle multiple assignments and work under tight deadlines.
BA degree (or compensating work experience) in marketing, communications or related discipline.
Thorough knowledge of desktop publishing as well as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
