Johnson Service Group is looking for a Public Information Rep that would help with scheduling tours, managing the online tour registration, and following up and communication with those scheduled to take tours. The staff would also help with the setting up of tours, including setting up the temporary signage, outreach materials, surveys and displays etc., accompanying the tours and helping with wrapping up. The person would be responsible for restocking outreach materials, handouts, promotional items and displays. They would also help with traveling tours/speakers bureau that are a major part of Recycled Water Strategic Communications Plan.

Major Functions:

Perform a variety of public outreach and community relations activities, special events and public awareness programs for the distribution of information regarding CLIENT operations, policies and procedures.

Research, write and edit press releases , feature articles and other materials for newspapers, magazines, radio and television; develop and maintain contacts with the news media; represent the CLIENT at media engagements; serve as spokesperson to media representatives.

Promote awareness of CLIENT goals, projects and programs through employee targeted orientation events, internal publications and other media; prepare monthly internal newsletter. Work with community groups, neighborhood communities, businesses and civic leaders to assure their understanding of CLIENT policies and operations.

Analyze and interpret information on a variety of integrated water resource issues; plan and implement, with management concurrence, appropriate communication strategies.

Develop and maintain contacts with various community groups and organizations and government representatives; promote positive relations with the general public, community groups, employees, schools and local government.

Design or lay out CLIENT publications requiring graphic specialties; employ student interns or part time help for the design of various graphic publications; solicit graphic designers, photographers and printers in the production of publications. Oversee and participate in taking photographs, slides and films for news media or CLIENT use; coordinate the production of various publications, slide shows, films, exhibits and similar materials.

Maintain an in-depth knowledge in one or more integrated water resources issues that affect the CLIENT, i.e., distribution of water supplies, long range water supply planning, water conservation, recycling and environmental protection, imported water, watershed protection, and flood management. Develop survey instruments; conduct surveys of program participants to determine participant needs; interpret and record survey results; implement program changes in response to results.

Assist in the preparation and administration of specific program areas of the public information budget; submit program budget recommendations; forecast additional funds needed for specific staffing, equipment, materials and supplies. Plan, organize, and conduct tours of CLIENT facilities as required

Required Knowledge

Basic:

principles, techniques and methods of public information and community relations; and methods and techniques of graphic design and production

Procedures utilized in preparing information for dissemination through various media

English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation

Required Skills and Abilities

Perform a variety of public outreach and community relations activities for the CLIENT

Learn:

operations, policies and procedures of the CLIENT;

current issues and projects impacting CLIENT operations; and

pertinent Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations

Learn to:

apply special graphic production techniques in the distribution of informational materials;

monitor and make recommendations for modifications to existing communication procedures; and

interpret, apply and explain CLIENT policies, operations and procedures.

Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public

Develop and maintain contacts with the news media, various community groups, schools and government representatives

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Will use:

Computer, 35 mm and digital camera, automobile, van, copy machine, scanner, audio recorder, fax machine.

Education:

Equivalent to a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in communications, journalism, public relations, education or a related field. Directly related experience may be substituted for the college requirement on the basis of one and one-half years experience for one year of education to a maximum of four years.

Experience:

3-5 years of experience in public relations, public information, community relations, education or outreach activities.
