As a recognized leader in the field, the Literacy team interacts often with many national and international leaders. We are currently looking for an experienced and creative Marketing Director to develop, implement and maintain marketing strategies and to lead the outreach effort for Benetech´s Literacy Program.

Our primary Literacy initiatives are dynamic, interactive web applications:

* Bookshare – the world's largest online accessible library of copyrighted content for people with print disabilities (bookshare.org).
* Route 66 Literacy - an online, instructional literacy program for adolescent and adult beginning readers (route66literacy.org).

Position Description

As the Director of Marketing, you will report to the VP & General Manager of the Literacy Program as a member of the senior management team. You will lead the highly effective Literacy Marketing & Outreach team of eight people. The team's primary focus is on utilization and membership among students, schools and individuals. Their work has resulted in growing Bookshare by over 140,000 members in just four years, using a mix of marketing tools, from social media and email marketing to conferences and professional development workshops for educators. The Director of Marketing will lead all outreach areas, including marketing communications, PR, education program management, product marketing, events and professional development.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Provide marketing leadership and hands on implementation for Literacy Initiatives, representing both the interests of users and the Benetech mission

* Assume primary responsibility for serving our audience by driving new subscriber growth and retention of existing customers

* Manage the Marketing & Outreach team, staffing and budget

* Create unified strategic marketing plans, lead the strategy for brand positioning and messaging and approve tactical plans and campaigns to achieve it

* Oversee strategy and implementation of all marketing campaigns and tactics including, but not limited to: Outbound communications, Email Marketing, Direct Mail, Social Media, Print advertising, Online Advertising (SEO, SEM & Web ads), PR, Partnerships, Conferences, Public-facing website content, and Community and grassroots marketing

* Direct data collection and analysis, in conjunction with Operations, as appropriate

* Propose and define business cases for product priorities from Marketing team and users

* Direct marketing planning for new product launches and major enhancement releases

* Recommend and manage appropriate approval flows for collateral & online media

* Represent Bookshare at educational, disability and other conferences

* Provide input on funding proposals and reporting

Qualifications

* Bachelor´s degree (B.A./B.S.) with 10+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

* Demonstrated experience in all aspects of developing and maintaining marketing strategies to meet organizational objectives

* Proven ability to oversee all marketing, advertising and promotional activities Experience launching new products and enhancements

* Strong understanding of customer and market dynamics and requirements

* Ability to collaborate actively and effectively on multidisciplinary teams

* Excellent project management skills and attention to detail

* Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

* Ability to thrive in a fast paced, small company environment

* Motivated, dynamic, creative, and results-oriented

* Significant experience in the nonprofit sector as a manager, volunteer and/or board member and a personal commitment to Benetech's nonprofit goal of technology serving humanity

* Strong understanding of Benetech's mission, and ability to serve as a passionate, effective advocate within the community

* Ability to work well within a multi-disciplinary team environment with high standards, integrity, and a sense of humor

* Experience in managing, guiding, and developing a professional staff with an emphasis on teamwork and team building

* Excellent judgment, strategic thinker, enthusiastic and entrepreneurial

* Exceptional interpersonal, communication, public speaking and presentation skills

* Background in Literacy or Education a strong plus

* Available to travel to represent Benetech as required
