Benetech is seeking a dynamic and creative professional for our Volunteer Program Manager position. This position will manage our active volunteer program and will be launching one or more major new volunteer initiatives in the coming year. The position will report to the Director of Operations for the Literacy Program.

The Volunteer Program Manager will support Benetech´s Literacy Program, with a primary focus on Bookshare, the largest online library of copyrighted materials available to print-disabled individuals. The Bookshare library now includes over 120,000 titles and serves over 150,000 members. Volunteers are a critical component of the Bookshare community and have a long standing connection and history with Bookshare, as well as a major role in achieving our mission in the future.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Volunteer Engagement and Retention – Ensure that volunteers are engaged and have a clear sense of the impact and value of their efforts; design and implement a structured program for volunteer engagement.
- Partner recruitment and engagement – Recruit and retain key corporate, public, and non-profit organizations as ongoing volunteer partners and champions
- Operational Management – Manage all aspects of the volunteer program operations, including volunteer on boarding, workflow and recognition
- Staff Management – Supervise the staff team for the volunteer program
- Volunteer Recruitment - Develop and implement a comprehensive volunteer recruitment program, from the community and universities as well as partners.
- Data Tracking and Reporting – Create volunteer data tracking and reporting infrastructure that captures key metrics and trend data, maps progress against goals, and highlights the impact and ROI for the volunteer program.
- Communication – Develop and implement a volunteer communications strategy, conveying the accomplishments and importance of the volunteer efforts and creating a sense of community among the volunteers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, teamwork orientation, and ability to motivate wide range of people. Sensitivity to issues of cultural diversity.
- A minimum of two years prior management or staff supervision experience
- Prior experience in volunteer management highly desirable
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated writing ability and some public speaking experience.
- Demonstrated ability to execute operational strategies and manage projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team and with all levels of staff, Board, membership and volunteers.
- Office software proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Database experience also a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with data tracking, reporting, and data analysis
