[KITlist] Director of Marketing Communications (Santa Clara, CA)

The Director of Marketing Communications will play a key role in the development of our overall strategic directions and the annual marketing communications plan for the entire association. This requires working closely with the leaders of each Y facility and location to determine their needs and to provide leadership on both association-wide and branch-specific initiatives. The Director is responsible for the development and implementation of the subsequent tactical marketing communications plans. The primary objectives are to:

1) Raise visibility and enhance public understanding of the Y's nonprofit status and positive impact on the community;

2) Increase our capacity to speak in a unified voice and advocate on behalf of the Y's work;

3) Promote membership growth (both facility and program);

4) Facilitate member retention; and

5) Support all fundraising efforts.

This position requires a commitment to the YMCA mission and its core values of: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility as well as a commitment to building developmental assets in adults and youth. Additionally, the YMCA values diversity, youth, and a broad vision of health and wellness which is enhanced by relationship building.

A Bachelor's Degree with 5+ years of experience as a Marketing Communications professional, including 2+ years in management is required or equivalent. Experience in a leading non-profit, a consumer business, or service marketing is highly desirable.

Proven understanding and demonstrated implementation of marketing communications strategies and best practices.
Demonstrated ability to translate marketing objectives into compelling communications that achieve targeted results.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, stay within budget, meet deadlines, and consistently deliver high quality results.
Significant experience in developing marketing collateral and in managing website strategy and creating content.
Experience in all aspects of event management and communications.
Knowledge and experience with e-marketing and social media techniques and best practices including online advertising, research and applications.
Technical proficiency to create e-newsletters and e-blasts with dynamic data using Constant Contact and other e-marketing software.
Strong ability to work in collaboration with strategic partner agencies.
Highly organized, with excellent project management skills.

Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and teamwork skills: able to thrive in a relationship-oriented culture.
Proficient written, verbal, and creative communications skills. Highly skilled writer/editor. (Writing samples will be requested.)
Detail oriented, but able to think strategically and see the big picture; strong creative thinking and analytical skills.
Resourcefulness in an environment of scarcity and high demands. Ability to maximize return on marketing dollars.
Ability to work effectively and productively with staff and volunteers; delegating, monitoring; empowering, and leading.
Willingness to work at all levels, as an individual contributor, a team player and a team leader.
Self-motivated and able to motivate others; must be hands-on and results-driven.
Graphic design skills a plus, but not required.
