Salary: Starting salary is $44,635 - $52,832 depending on education and experience with increases to $65,713 based on professional development units as it relates to the current Lower Columbia College Faculty Agreement.
Description of Position
Lower Columbia College is seeking collaborative and creative English Instructors to play a leadership role in transitioning students from pre-college courses into college-level programs. Both openings will teach the full spectrum of pre-college courses and possibly some transfer-level courses. The Developmental English Reading Instructor will additionally have an emphasis on reading.
Duties Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:
• Provide quality instruction that emphasizes an active, student-centered learning environment
• Effectively prepare and present course content to a diverse student population with various learning styles and abilities
• Participate in ongoing professional development to remain current in discipline and teaching strategies
• Provide professional development focused on reading and developmental writing
• Collaborate with all members of the campus community to foster student success
• Competently incorporate instructional technologies in course delivery, both face-to-face and online
• Contribute to program and college assessment and accreditation activities
• Participate in department activities and meetings
• Collaborate with tutoring services
• Serve as academic advisor
• Serve on college committees
• Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
• Master's degree in English Composition, Reading, Rhetoric, or related educational field
Preferred Qualifications
• Coursework or credentials in reading
• Three years community college teaching experience including developmental or precollege students
• Experience in curriculum development
• Experience working with a diverse population
• Experience with program-specific and campus-wide assessment of teaching and learning
Candidates called to an interview will be expected to conduct a classroom presentation on a discipline related topic. When scheduling the interview, candidates will be provided further details on the presentation requirements. Candidates called for interview may be reimbursed up to $200 to help defray travel costs.
