The Web/User Interface Designer is responsible for designing creative, intuitive websites that meet the needs of the end user while ensuring business and marketing objectives, client goals, and brand strategies are satisfied. He/she works closely with a multi-disciplinary team (which may include information architect, customer experience analyst, writers, usability specialists, project managers, and other designers as well as with the technical and product strategy teams) in a user-centered, iterative development process that ensures a quality customer experience.
The Web/User Interface Designer requires little supervision and is responsible for the on-target, on-time delivery of multiple projects. Also has success working in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
Actively participate in the discovery phase
Gain an understanding of the project goals and problem(s) to solve in design
Create and present rough concepts that solve the problem(s) discussed
Collaborate with web developer on feasibility
Actively participate in requirements phase
Drive the project team toward innovative solutions that meet sales and product development, technology, client, and user needs
Create and present wireframes, designs, and prototypes that address the requirements
Create, refine, and implement innovative, high-quality solutions
Apply visual design, information architecture, and user experience expertise to achieve effective solutions that meet project goals, as well as the needs of sales and product development, technology, clients, users.
Collaborate with other team members including CEA, usability specialists, web developers, CS&E domain lead, BA, SMEs, csDev, Ben IT, etc. to ensure innovative, usable, useful, desirable, technically feasible, and saleable solutions
Ensure solutions balance concerns for Hewitt profitability, client expectations and desires, end-user satisfaction
Advocate for a consistent customer experience & creation of/adherence to guiding principles
Plan and execute projects
Excellent decision making skills and judgment to keep projects moving forward within scope and budget
Accountable and responsible for design tasks leading to successful project outcomes
Identify risks and potential solutions, manage own tasks
Deliver high-quality solutions within scope and budget
Qualifications
Experience
Technical Skills:
-MUST be proficient in XHTML, CSS, Photoshop & Illustrator
-MUST understand table-less layouts, cross-browser compatibility and MUST be able to build pages in code (either by hand or in combination with Dreamweaver rather than hand over a Photoshop file to a developer)
-Knowledge of JSP, Javascript, jQuery, Alloy, Flash is a plus
-Candidates should be able to prototype solutions to assist with creating demos for usability testing and sharing solutions with the team
Portfolio of Visual Design & Information Architecture work:
-- The candidate's portfolio should include samples that demonstrate strong visual design skills that have been applied to online applications and user interfaces (e.g., web sites, interactive media, etc.). These skills include:
-Typography -- Appropriate font choices, color, hierarchy, size, legibility, alignment, etc.
-Imagery -- High quality images add value. Appropriate choice of images, skilled at preparing images for the web, not distorted, no "halos", etc.
-Layout -- Strong placement of visual elements such as content, images, form fields, buttons, and other elements on the page. This also includes a good use of white space as well.
-Solution design -- The candidate is able to take a complex problem and solve it through visual design and information architecture. This could include designing a series of pages for new functionality, creating a visual representation of a concept, innovation, etc.
-User Interface Design -- Design for applications that users interact with. Candidates understand what users intend to do and design solutions that enable them to effectively do it.
-A majority of the work CS&E does is online. However, samples of print design are also helpful to review (but not essential) for evidence of the basic design skills.
-Information Architecture -- This is the organization of content/elements across the site as well as within individual pages. Strong information architecture samples demonstrate effective hierarchy of information and visual elements, navigation that enables users to find what they're looking for, as well as an understanding of content. Some candidates provide samples of site maps and wireframes which are also helpful.
Communication Skills:
The candidate is able to communicate messages and concepts to users through effective design solutions. She/He is also able to effectively present solutions and rationale to a variety of people (e.g., business sponsors, developers, project team). Building partnerships with team members, listening skills, and ability to effectively influence the direction of solutions are additional skills that are beneficial to the CS&E role.

Learning agility, problem solving, innovation, decision-making, flexibility, resourcefulness, ability to work independently and with the team.
