Contingent Worker – Payroll & Benefits Manager
Job Summary:
The Payroll & Benefits Manager is responsible for supervising the payroll and benefits team in managing weekly payroll processing for US and Canadian payroll, benefit administration, PTO, and unemployment compensation claims.
Provides oversight to payroll and benefit vendors including ensuring plan design changes are implemented accurately.
Also responsible for HR data management, tax filing, benefits enrollment inclusive of eligibility compliance, bill reconciliation and accruals.
Business Requirements - Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:
- Oversight of weekly US and Canadian payroll cycle processing ensuring that partners are paid accurately and on time, with the proper payroll deductions and taxation.
- Ensures timely and accurate preparation of all company payroll operations; ensures that payroll actions are in conformance with employment and benefits practices, and government regulations at Federal, State and Provincial levels.
- Ensures compliance with Federal/State/Local/Provincial laws and standards, company policies and benefit plans. Communicates changes to management, payroll team and third party vendors
- Serves as a subject matter expert / point of escalation for payroll and benefits team and other internal departments on compliance and technical issues for payroll-related issues.
- Manages all processes and systems related to daily payroll functions, including system access and reporting.
- Ensures plan design changes are implemented accurately with external vendors and internal systems.
Summary of Experience Years
Payroll Administration using Ultimate Software
Multi entity, multi state/provincial payroll process (US & Canada)
Supervisory experience
Full cycle payroll processing, time entry to general ledger
Experience in Federal/State/Local and Provincial labor/tax law
Report writing
Vendor Management
Project Management
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced skills in payroll systems (specifically Ultimate Software), computers (Excel, Project, Powerpoint, etc.), and other software which has an interface to Ultipro (Dayforce, etc.)
- Experience in configuring Ultipro
- Advanced knowledge of payroll and benefits laws / compliance specific to state laws and federal guidelines
- Must have advanced attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment
- Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to interact with management at all levels within an organization
- Strong organizational, project management and problem solving skills
- Knowledge of all areas of payroll including processing, tax, accounting, garnishments, and systems.
- Advanced skills in payroll systems (specifically Ultimate Software), computers (Excel, Project, Powerpoint, etc.), and other software which has an interface to Ultipro (Dayforce, etc.)
- Certified Payroll Professional
