Manager, Software Development
Location: Austin, TX
Our client is seeking a highly motivated Software Development Manager to handle the day-to-day management duties of a Software Engineering team developing a world-class online advertising platform. This individual will oversee the work of a team of talented engineers responsible for the full lifecycle of the production software applications in our front end and back end systems. They will interact daily with their team as well as executives within and outside of the Engineering department. This person will also be a key contributor to setting the standard for development practices, scalability goals, platform upgrades, and will be involved in many of the major technical decisions regarding the company's platform.
Overall management and mentorship of a development team of both senior and junior level Software Engineers responsible for writing code, manual and automated testing, debugging, reliability, performance, and scalability
Active involvement in day to-day projects to meet schedules and resolve problems
Participate in technical communication within the team and to other groups associated with specified projects to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications
Collaborate closely with the Product Management Team to determine appropriate feature set for each product release
Work on multiple release plans at any given time, planning ahead for the future releases.
Helping with the continuous improvement of software development best practices
Actively participate in the recruiting and hiring of talented Software Engineers
Requirements
Experience with: Agile, Java, Linux, BigData
Previous knowledge of highly scalable systems is desired
Ability to learn and apply new technologies quickly
Capacity to multi-task in a dynamic environment
Excellent verbal and communication skills
Experience with Agile development methodologies is a plus
BS in Computer Science or other technical discipline (with significant computer coursework)
10+ years active software development experience with 5+ years in managing development teams
Proven ability to manage, mentor and motivate teams
Experience working with offsite developers and internal customers/stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects
Ability to work on or oversee multiple, major projects and ensure they are delivered on time according to project schedules
