BACKGROUND

Brightree LLC (www.brightree.com) is the market-leader and the fastest growing provider of mission-critical Internet-hosted business management solutions for Home Medical Equipment (HME), Durable Medical Equipment (DME), Orthotics & Prosthetics (O&P) and Sleep Therapy markets. Founded in 2002, Brightree was the first “Software as a Service” (“SaaS”) solution developed specifically for the HME/DME markets, fully automating the unique workflows and complex requirements of the industry. The combination of its intuitive, easy-to-use Internet-hosted software and its superior customer support and professional services has driven it to a market-leading position. Since 2005, the company has grown from 12 to 420 employees and from 60 to 2,400 healthcare provider customers. In 2011 Brightree’s revenues grew 57%. The company is exceeding both P&L and new business goals for 2012.

Independent surveys establish Brightree as the fastest growing business management solution in the HME/DME industry, outpacing all competitive products combined. Through Brightree’s SaaS platform healthcare provider customers file insurance plan claims in excess of $10 billion annually. Brightree has built an excellent reputation for world-class customer service as it supports in excess of 50,000 users. Brightree’s solution boasts a 99.99% uptime.

Brightree is headquartered in Lawrenceville, GA and employs a team of over 400. The company received a significant investment from Battery Ventures in 2008 with the intention of using the new capital to accelerate organic growth, consolidate the markets it serves today, and expand into complementary healthcare markets. Brightree was recognized in 2008, 2009, 2010, and again in 2011 as one of Georgia’s fastest-growing private companies.

OPPORTUNITY

HME/DME is a market anticipating high levels of growth due to factors such as (a) the aging U.S. population; (b) increasing complexities in the billing and claims process; and (c) the pressures that Medicare and other payers are placing on healthcare providers/hospitals to move patients to home-based care.

Brightree is a profitable company with significant competitive advantages and a reputation for addressing the needs of its current $1.2B niche provider market. The market is dominated by independent providers (most are <$10M in revenue) for whom Brightree’s solutions can dramatically improve cash flow and increase profitability when compared to providers’ existing, outdated legacy products.

For instance, these independent providers typically rely upon labor-intensive billing, claims and collections processes. With increasing Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payer reimbursement cuts and complexities, moving to Brightree’s efficient SaaS platform can mean the difference between profit and loss for providers. Brightree is the only solution on the market today that can handle the complexities of electronic claims processing automatically through its centralized platform (via direct high-speed Internet (FTP) connection) thus saving enormous amounts of time. Brightree’s SaaS model permits providers to seamlessly connect to thousands of payers from one single connection point. Consequently, and importantly to providers, the Brightree solution enables providers to get paid more quickly than competitive solutions because of the direct and automated transmission of claims.

Brightree prides itself on providing world-class customer support and professional services, including an e-Claims Concierge. In cases where a claim has not been processed or has been denied, Brightree acts as the 1st line of support in quickly identifying where the issue is and resolving it. This is in contrast to the arduous task providers’ face without Brightree, where they must track where the bottleneck or problem is themselves and sort through complicated and bureaucratic processes.
