Job Description:
Ancestry.com is looking for a Principal Engineer/Architect to lead the effort to create our next generation commerce platform. This next generation platform must be scalable, testable, easy to maintain, and easy to enhance. The candidate must be capable of architecting and designing simple, elegant solutions using web services and guiding an incremental replacement project. They must have extensive knowledge and a history of success using Test Driven Development, solid coding principles, refactoring, and maintaining clean code across the development team. Past success leading a small team of developers on new projects using Agile development a must. This individual is expected to mentor and teach both junior and senior developers.
Principal Engineer/Architect next generation commerce platform
Required Skills:
Minimum of 8 to 10 years experience and a BS in Computer Science or similar discipline. Advanced degree a plus.
Deep knowledge of .NET, IIS, and the Microsoft Toolset required. Extensive understanding of WCF web services and MS SQL databases.
Working knowledge of payment systems, order processing, renewal systems, and product catalogs, and working with an online subscription business a plus.
Proven leader who has successfully modernized legacy systems.
Ability to research and prototype potential solutions. Able to evaluate, select, and recommend buy vs. build decisions. Knowledge of open source technologies and projects a plus.
Experience with a tier one commerce system (ATG, SAP, SalesForce, etc.) and/or CRM (Customer Relationship Management) System a plus.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Individual will work with stakeholders in Finance, Marketing, and Product.
Must have a history of involving engineers and other stakeholders and accomplishing buy-in.
Detail oriented individual who enjoys working with the systems that capture the revenue for the business.

Job Description:
We are looking for an experienced SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER with 7 to 10 years experience in the industry building web sites and applications with object oriented languages. You will assist in the creation and development of services that build on our core consumer subscription business, systems that help maintain our internal development products, and enhance/maintain the ancestry.com web site. You will initially focus on support tools, internal web sites, and the ancestry.com site (all written in .NET).
Key Responsibilities / Performance Requirements:
This position will create and modify code that supports a number of services, processes, internal web sites, and SQL Server database operations that support the Ancestry.com web sites. The work will focus on our media and media metadata services. This individual needs to have solid ASP .NET experience. Experience with SOA and REST is preferred.
Required Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or equivalent degree/experience)
Programming experience with C#.
Back-end services experience (IIS, HTTP Handlers, WCF)
Proficiency in SQL, database schema design and implementation (tables, queries, triggers, views, and stored procedures).
Understanding of Scrum and software development processes.
Ability to write unit tests for all code developed. Proficiency in Test Driven Development a plus.
Proficiency with Microsoft Development Tools
Willingness and ability to learn new technologies; self starter.
Good communication skills; ability to provide clear documentation.
Ability to work with Product Management, QA, and other development teams.
Ability to work with a small dedicated team of software developers.
Analytical and adept at problem solving with strong attention to detail
