Se. Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner- Orthopedics
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Terms Full time permanent position
We are currently seeking an orthopedic senior PA/NP to join a growing practice. This team member will spend approximately 50% of time at the hospital/rounds.
Typical responsibilities include: pre-op exams such as detailed knee/hip history and physical; setting up OR for knee/hip cases; post-op rounds and checks for TKR/TKH patients including appropriate documentation; writing post-op orders and procedural notes; knee/hip injections; casting/splinting, PT/INR flow sheet management with appropriate prescription of Coumadin and Lovenox; running average 30 patient clinic independently; closure of skin and subcutaneous tissue
Responsibilities:
* General medical history and physical exam for pre operative visit with associated informed consent process with documentation and appropriate coding.
* Detailed knee/hip specific history and physical exam.
* Set up for total knee/hip cases in the operating room.
* Set up for hip fracture cases in the operating room.
* Skin closure with staples and Skin closure with subcuticular stitch.
* Post op dressing for TKR/THR and appropriate patient transfer.
* Hospital rounds for post operative check and appropriate documentation on day of surgery.
* Routine hospital daily rounds, wound checks and appropriate documentation.
* Unassisted knee injections in seated position.
* Knee injections in supine position.
* Independent evaluation of post operative patients on their first return after surgery with removal of staples/stitches, wound evaluation and addressing the majority of postoperative patient questions and concerns.
* Average of 25 patients per clinic with appropriate documentation and coding.
* Removal of casts and splints safely and assist in application of casts and splints.
* Appropriate prescription and documentation especially of narcotics.
* Pre-operative chart check screening in preparation for surgery.
* Competency in EMR/office/hospital charting.
* Uncomplicated splint and cast applications.
* Post operative phone calls after hospital discharge.
* Tracking information for database/licensure/recertification as needed.
* Competency writing post operative orders and post operative procedural note.
Skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Must be team player and willing to *go the extra step*.
* Must excel at interacting with patients, especially seniors.
* Must thrive in fast paced environment and be willing to learn new tasks/skills.
* Able to work competently, efficiently, independently.
* PA certification and degree required.
Must be licensed to work in the State of Arizona.
* Flexibility to work schedule according to patients* needs.
* Proficiency in Computer systems required
