We seek a Senior Systems Engineer for our Communications Business Unit to lead complex product projects for platforms, extensions, enhancements, and features. In addition, you will contribute to building Symmetricom's reputation as synchronization experts and industry advisors through whitepapers and occasional participation in international standards bodies.
This opportunity will leverage your understanding of technologies such as:
- Communications networks
- Phase/frequency locked loops (PLL/FLL/DLL)
- Network Time Protocol (NTP)
- IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP)
- Embedded real-time processors and operating systems
- Linux
- High reliability redundant systems (hardware and software robustness)
- Network management systems (NMS
- Network security (MD5, SSH, IPSEC)
- Global satellite systems (GPS, GNSS, Galileo, Beidou)
- Antennas/receivers
- IPTV
- TCP/IP
- Network quality of service/experience (QOS/QOE)

Exceptional communications skills will be required to clearly:
- Document and define the product requirements and project plan across all functional disciplines (hardware, software, production, compliance, etc)
- Define product solutions to meet and exceed rigorous telecom customer requirements and promote design re-use, manufacturability, and quality
- Create program plans balancing schedule, costs and risks to meet market opportunities
- Analyze tradeoffs among various approaches and make recommendations to Management regarding product architectures, reusability, and system quality
- Align tasks and resources to deliver new products with differentiated features on time and budget
- Integrate advances from R+D into product roadmaps based on understanding customers' current and future needs
- Support Marketing, Sales, and Business Development to provide timely technical solutions and responses to customer issues and proposals
- Work across boundaries to efficiently integrate the latest technologies with field and manufacturing lessons into product designs which optimize high reliability hardware and software with cost effective production techniques

Essential requirements for this position include:
- BSEE or BSCS plus a minimum of 10 years related work experience
- 5 or more years experience and demonstrated ability to lead complex projects from concept to production release
- 5 or more years experience with high reliability design
- 3 or more years experience and demonstrated ability to work closely and professionally with customers
- 3 or more years experience with telecom industry experience
- Outstanding teamwork, communication, organization, flexibility, and commitment
- Excellent clarity of thought and self-motivation
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Demonstrated expertise in two key technologies defined above

Desired qualifications include:
- MSEE or MSCS plus 8 years related work experience or PhD plus 5 years related work experience
- 8 to 10 years project management experience
- PMP or other Project Management training/certification
- 5 or more years experience with telecom industry standards
- 5 or more years experience with three or more key technologies defined above
- Direct experience working in telephone operators and network equipment providers
- Foreign language skills (Mandarin)
- Familiarity with ISO9000/TL9000 quality procedures
