The Role: Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer
The Location: Austin, TX

Founded by a well-respected and proven team of entrepreneurs, TrackingPoint is on a path to transform weapon system performance by the application of its groundbreaking technology. We are currently seeking an exceptional candidate to fill the role of Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer.
The Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer will supply all the mechanical and opto-mechanical support needs of the team. This will include modeling mechanical parts and assembly, generating bills of materials, evaluating vendors, working with and managing the engineers that are fabricating the parts, performing tolerance analysis on assembly, and understanding how the product is impacted by shock and vibration. The Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer position requires the ability to supply all the mechanical and opto-mechanical support needs of the team. The ideal candidate will be well versed in mechanical and opto-mechanical design best practices and be able to rapidly iterate on developing product designs.
Required Skills & Experience:
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or similar engineering degree and at least 5 years of experience
3+ years ruggedized military or consumer product design experience
Clear understanding of opto-mechanical design trade-off considerations
Tolerance analysis knowledge and experience
Extensive SolidWorks or 3D modeling/drafting experience
Zemax (or equivalent) familiarity (ability to import ray traces and lens solid models)
Experience with lens prototyping and mechanical parts fabrication
Experience with opto-mechanical alignment and tilt sensitivity with ability to perform tolerance analysis
Manufacturing/design troubleshooting and metrology
Excellent communication skills as a subject matter expert
Must be a self-starter with commitment to excellence and elegance
Additional Valuable Background:
Industrial design experience
Process/Manufacturing engineering experience
Laser rangefinder development and manufacturing
Camera system design experience (lens mounting, waterproofing and ruggedized housings)
Finite element analysis for recoil/ruggedization
ASME membership
Experience working as a design engineer for a company that makes rifle scopes, lasers, night vision goggles or binoculars
Good understanding of basic physics
