Senior Network Engineer, North Chicago, Lake Forest, IL
Client, is a leading supplier of specialized business process outsourcing (BPO) services that are delivered in our call centers through a diverse workforce across North America supporting clients in multiple vertical markets comprised of banks, energy and utility companies, health care providers, universities, and government organizations. We support the entire customer lifecycle that includes customer acquisition, full loan servicing, delinquency management, and collections utilizing a combination of voice, chat, email, SMS, and interactive voice messaging channels. This position is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the Windows Server based technical infrastructure for the organization's Information Technology. This infrastructure primarily includes server and storage hardware, MS Windows Server operating systems, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, and miscellaneous IT support systems. Will work closely with Manager to ensure that the server infrastructure delivers at a service level consistent with organizational risk, information access requirements, and business strategies. Position works to improve or maintain a high level of system performance and availability through the implementation of sound technologies and consistent use of generally accepted IS best practices.
Works with other IT department staff to ensure proper implementation of computing infrastructure in support of business application initiatives. Works closely and professionally with Systems Administration team members to promote teamwork, stewardship, and accountability. Provides technical consulting on simple to complex IS initiatives.
Reports to the Infrastructure Manager. Must provide updates regarding the performance and availability of the server infrastructure and proactively work to resolve problems.
Principal Responsibilities
- Assesses network infrastructure needs and capabilities of the organization. Makes regular reports to management concerning the current state of the technical environment to include refreshes, upgrades and obsolescence / disposal plans.
- Works on design, implementation, and support activities for network switches, routers, firewalls, cabling plant, and wireless solutions.
- Executes work plans for the design, build, and implementation of the network infrastructure. Meets deadlines and quality requirements.
- Works with management to determine measurable and attainable goals related to network availability and to formulate network budgets supportive of those goals. Works closely with rest of team to meet goals on a consistent basis.
- Works to maintain or reach high levels of customer satisfaction on issues escalated from the Help Desk to Network Administration team. Also, works closely with this team to properly maintain the cleanliness and efficiency of the data center environment.
- Works closely with the IT Security to maintain or reach high levels of security and to develop, implement and test the disaster recovery plan for the organization's network and data centers.
- Acts to resolve technical issues including network down, intrusion, and performance. Must consistently demonstrate solid analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Monitors network for potential performance and availability issues.
- Prepares required network documentation to aid in troubleshooting, disaster recovery practices, security initiatives, and cross-training.
- Demonstrates a continually improved understanding of the organization's network environment through ability to provide technical guidance and consistently produce desired results on both project and support efforts.
- Keeps current on network technology issues through seminars, publications and self-education on an on-going basis.
- Conforms to formal departmental methodology standards including project management, change management, testing, and security requirements.
Qualifications
- Requires bachelor's degree in computer science or related technology field.
- Requires 7+ years of relevant network administration experience.
- Solid capabilities working to plan and meeting deadlines.
- Outstanding knowledge and skills in network technologies including switching, routing, wireless, VPNs, cabling, WANs, and multiple protocols including BGP, OSPF, NAT/PAT, SNMP, MPLS, VPLS, QoS, IPSec, GRE, HSRP/VRRP, Multicast, STP, 10GigE, GigE, 10/100 Ethernet, T1, DS3, SONET, GTM, LTM, DNS, DHCP.
- Outstanding knowledge and skills in Cisco products including switches, routers, firewalls, management tools, etc.
- Working knowledge of multiple server operating systems including Windows and UNIX.
- Working knowledge of Active Directory authentication, DNS and DHCP services.
- Must have good interpersonal skills in communications with all levels of the organization's personnel, vendors and IT personnel.
- Must be able to train others quickly and thoroughly on key IT concepts.
In-country and international travel required.
