Senior Systems Engineer – Milwaukee, New Berlin, WI OR Lake Forest, IL

This position is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the Windows Server based technical infrastructure for the organization's Information Technology.  This infrastructure primarily includes server and storage hardware, MS Windows Server operating systems, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, and miscellaneous IT support systems.  Will work closely with Manager to ensure that the server infrastructure delivers at a service level consistent with organizational risk, information access requirements, and business strategies.  Position works to improve or maintain a high level of system performance and availability through the implementation of sound technologies and consistent use of generally accepted IS best practices.


Works with other IT department staff to ensure proper implementation of computing infrastructure in support of business application initiatives.  Works closely and professionally with Systems Administration team members to promote teamwork, stewardship, and accountability.  Provides technical consulting on simple to complex IS initiatives.

Reports to the Infrastructure Manager.  Must provide updates regarding the performance and availability of the server infrastructure and proactively work to resolve problems.    

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assesses Windows server hardware/software infrastructure needs and capabilities of the organization. Makes regular reports to management concerning the current state of the technical environment.
  • Works on design, implementation, and support activities for server hardware, storage devices, Windows operating systems, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, and other critical support software.
  • Executes work plans for the design, build, and implementation of server/storage/backup hardware and software.Meets deadlines and quality requirements.
  • Works with management to determine measurable and attainable goals related to server availability. Works closely with rest of team to meet goals on a consistent basis.
  • Ensures proper system backups are completed to ensure recovery on a timely basis for an on-site recovery or an alternative site recovery.
  • Works to maintain or reach high levels of customer satisfaction on issues escalated from the Help Desk to Systems Administration team. Also, works closely with this team to properly maintain the cleanliness and efficiency of the data center environment.
  • Works closely with the IT Security Team to maintain or reach high levels of security and to develop, implement and test the disaster recovery plan for the organization's network and data centers.
  • Acts to resolve technical issues including system down, intrusion, and performance. Must consistently demonstrate solid analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Monitors systems for potential performance and availability issues.
  • Prepares required system documentation to aid in troubleshooting, disaster recovery practices, security initiatives, and cross-training.
  • Keeps current on server technology issues through seminars, publications and self-education on an on-going basis.

​​MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Requires bachelor's degree in computer science or related technology field.
  • Requires seven or more years of relevant Windows Server based systems administration experience.
  • Outstanding capabilities working to plan and meeting deadlines.
  • Outstanding troubleshooting and resolution skills.
  • Outstanding knowledge, experience and skills in all Microsoft Windows Server operating systems, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, SCCM, WSUS, DHCP, and DNS.
  • Outstanding knowledge, experience, and skills in server, storage, backup, and PC technologies.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills in communications with all levels of the organization's personnel, vendors and IT personnel.
  • Must be able to train others quickly and thoroughly on key IT concepts.

  • Work location can be in either New Berlin, WI  or Lake Forest, IL
