Description: | The position will be accountable to lead and manage a team of part-time Merchandising Specialists in support of multiple clients throughout multiple retailers within an assigned District. This position will be responsible to source and identify candidates, conduct final interviewing and hiring of the Merchandising Specialist team, managing all aspects of their training, scheduling and execution of visits, completion of all reports and overall performance to goal. The scope of the Baker & Taylor Merchandising program is to execute on-going, weekly book and entertainment product merchandising services for a specialty, mass and big box retailers. This program is ultimately responsible to ensure the right product is placed in the right manner, in the right location at the right time. This approach will drive sales and overall customer satisfaction for our clients. - Ensure staffing levels are maintained with qualified individuals at all times
- Identify candidates, interview, hire and train potential new hires as needed
- Conduct regular in-market visits with merchandisers according to established program guidelines to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with company policies, procedures, and goals (requires approximately 50% travel)
- Coach and motivate merchandisers to be productive, results oriented associates
- Communicate daily with the Merchandising Specialists
- Participate in store coverage to maintain compliance rates as needed
- Establish and maintain business relationships between store management and retail accounts in order to effectively execute program objectives
- Meet/exceed all compliance goals and control expenses to budget
- Communicate regularly and conduct weekly reviews with Regional Manager - highlighting performance, areas of opportunity and needs in key metrics of their assigned Districts
- Respond to requests for feedback, information or other operational needs within 24 hours or in a timely manner
The candidate's success will be measured against: - Working closely with the Regional Manager and communicating regularly regarding reporting and tracking performance metrics to goal
- Expense control and adherence to all company policies
- Ensuring that all program initiatives (weekly and ongoing) are properly executed by the merchandising specialists
- Administrative maintenance of personnel roster, scheduling, payroll, etc.
- Decision-making skills and the ability to reason and take action in resolving problems while exhibiting professional sound judgment
- Leadership skills and the ability to build morale and motivate field based teams to achieve program goals and objectives
- Effective presentation skills along with strong verbal and written communication and the ability to state issues in a concise, solution driven manner

Requirements: | Education and/or Experience: - Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Marketing or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience in retail management, field sales/merchandising organization or related field

- Reliable daily transportation to travel within your district (Compliance with company driver program required)
- Maintain flexible work hours (some weekends and some evenings required) as our business is retail driven
- Regular travel required within the respective district - Travel by plane is a requirement
- Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs and may need to assemble and install racking at store locations.
- Must carry appropriate car insurance
Technical Requirements: - Home office space with internet connectivity required
