SRI International´s Corporate and Marketing Communications department develops and implements strategic, integrated programs in public relations, social media, marketing communications, and internal communications to meet SRI´s business objectives. We are seeking a dynamic, experienced communications professional to direct our PR team and further advance the SRI brand.
Working closely with the department vice president, the director is responsible for developing, directing, and producing communications programs that promote SRI's brand, contribute to achieving business objectives and goals, and establish and maintain a favorable reputation with the media, clients and partners, local communities, the public, and employees. He/she directs and oversees implementation of existing PR and social media programs, and advocates and develops new programs. The director also provides counsel on public affairs and crisis communications, as needed.

The position involves managing direct reports as well as interacting with staff members throughout SRI, at all levels, to understand objectives and needs and to identify solutions to communications opportunities and challenges. The director ensures activities are current with regard to trends, best practices, and costs, and are consistent with corporate objectives, strategic direction, and image. He/she consults with other functional areas, including marketing, business development, legal, IP, HR, and others, to ensure messaging is appropriate.

Job Duties:
Activities are broad and include the following:
- Partner with management and business development directors to develop integrated publicity programs to build business for SRI.
- Direct media relations, including managing reporter relationships and the online newsroom, media training executives, developing content, managing both budget and agency resources.
- Develop stories across multiple platforms, including story pitches, social media, video, audio, etc.
- Create, develop and direct social media campaigns and use of multiple channels.
- Collaborate with SRI's clients, spin-offs, and other stakeholders to leverage publicity opportunities.
- Design and execute programs to position senior management as thought leaders.
- Manage PR staff, delegating work effectively, overseeing day-to-day activities, and ensuring work productivity and quality. Evaluate performance and guide careers of direct reports.
- Create, develop, and manage special or large projects.
- Establish clear program and project objectives and success metrics.

Qualifications:
The position requires a strong background in PR, media relations, and social media, as well as familiarity with a variety of external communications vehicles, practices, metrics, and technologies. Qualifications also include:
- Ability to think strategically and to think like the media, while driving results and executing tactically.
- Creative thinking and corporate storytelling capabilities.
- Previous experience managing PR staff, raising their performance and consistently delivering added value on time and on budget.
- Strong teamwork, collaboration, process management, and cross-functional influencing skills, especially with people who have differing priorities.
- Ability to articulate ideas, and excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.
- Consultative experience at various levels of management.
- Resourcefulness and ability to get started quickly.
- Willingness to learn about new technologies and translate technology to target audiences.
- Ability to successfully manage a team.
- Strong character, ethics, and a high standard of performance.

Experience and Education:
Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field, and at least 10 years of relevant experience are required. In-house experience in a scientific or high-tech organization is strongly preferred.
