Op-ed Blog Writer and Communications Associate

If you have a flair for writing, are a creative thinker and have top-notch analytical skills, this is the opportunity for you. Rocket Lawyer is looking for a full-time, temp-to-hire candidate to join our team initially for a three month contract, with the expectation of coming on board as a full-time employee. You will be a staff writer for our current affairs op-ed publication Article 3 (www.article-3.com) and you will also have duties within the PR/Communications team.
Rocket Lawyer is the fastest growing online legal services company, based in San Francisco. We are building a world class team that is creating an affordable and simple way for consumers and small businesses to deal with any legal matter -- from free and affordable documents to attorney consultations for any legal situation.Article 3, the company's op-ed publication, is a new platform for explanation, exploration, and opinion sharing. We look at politics, society, law and tech and ask why things are they way that they are, and how they should be. While everyone has an opinion on what's going on, our goal is to ask the right questions and join in debate without shouting (at least not all the time), recognizing that there are already plenty of places to engage in loud arguments in a polarized world.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Research, compose and publish original articles
Solicit contributed media such as editorial illustrations, cartoons and infographics
Assist with coordinating and executing social media strategy
-Update Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, LinkedIn and Tumblr on a daily basis
Weekly podcast
-Publish articles in anticipation
-Undertake additional research as required
-Guest speaker outreach and interview preparation
PR content and communications
-Research and draft PR content
-Draft presentations
-Publicity coordination
Event Logistics
-Travel arrangements (flights, hotels,etc.)
Qualifications:
- Excellent GPA (3.5 or higher)
- Degree in History, Politics, English, Journalism, Law or related field preferred
- 1-3 years web-writing and public relations experience preferred
- Excellent research skills
- Keen attention to detail
- Creative thinker and eager to learn
- Tech savvy (blog experience is a plus)
- Highly collaborative
- Dependable person who can manage tasks to deadline
