JOB OVERVIEW

The Brand Communications Manager maternity cover candidate (four to six month contract position starting from the date of hire) champions the UCSF brand, advocating its purpose and promoting understanding of the brand within University Relations (UR) and across the institution. Strengthening and protecting the brand is fundamental to UCSF's success and our ability to compete for patients, students and faculty, and sustained research funding.

Day to day, the individual manages and executes communications efforts across the institution to communicate the UCSF brand, encourages adoption and enforces use. The individual will leverage industry best practices and data to promote brand awareness, build brand infrastructure, develop usage guidelines, evaluate usage, execute brand marketing projects and play a key role in ensuring UCSF brand health over the long term.

Please note: This is a four to six month contract position starting from the date of hire.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications or a related field

• 3-6 years of experience in brand, marketing and/or communications environment

• Substantial business experience in running brand management/brand marketing complex organization/s. Brand management within decentralized, stakeholder-driven environments a plus

• Experienced in coordinating and executing creative projects, including project planning, needs scoping, stakeholder buy-in, design review, vendor selection/management, and production. Experienced in project budget development and project management

• Demonstrated verbal, written and editorial skills, including presentation development and delivery, meeting facilitation, content development, copywriting and editing. Comfortable communicating and interacting with all levels of leadership

• Experience in brand strategy and marketing planning, writing marketing copy, developing and delivering brand/marketing presentations. Competent with fostering brand adoption and compliance

• Expertise writing marketing communications and brand material for the web. Proven experience managing content within website/s and advising others on maximizing brand potential in this medium (i.e. comfortable editing and working within content management system, project management)

• Extend a brand across all media channels including social media, and experience successfully using digital communications as part of overall marketing strategy and in delivering successful publications and campaigns within budget and time constraints

• Proven experience managing multiple projects and many-faceted budgets to bring results in on time, on goal, and on within financial constraints

• Ability to negotiate, with diplomacy, in difficult situations with both internal and external groups. Provide advice and counsel, using persuasive skills, to help align people around a common vision. People person. Client relations skills

• Problem solver. Demonstrated strong decision making skills based on experience and good judgment

• Understand big picture and how all the pieces fit together

• Experience generating and implementing plans for ensuring brand use and compliance

• In-depth knowledge of the full creative project life cycle (across a wide variety of media)

• Proven experience in brand application and extension projects

• Self-starter – able to work independently and with direction as part of a team. Demonstrated leadership potential

• Proven ability to evaluate implications for brand usage such that permissions granted protect and enhance the UCSF brand over the long term

• Expertise in brand marketing idea generation and problem solving

• Experience and ability to excel within complex business entities/environments

• Possess clean design style and have a very high esthetic level – aligned with the vision of UCSF brand

• Software expertise in PowerPoint, Word, Excel, project management tools; Drupal content management systems; Adobe Creative Suite (basic design ability) and HTML a plus
