Director of Marketing
About the Minerva Project and the Minerva Schools at KGI
Minerva, based in San Francisco, is reinventing higher education to prepare future leaders and innovators in a global context. With a pedagogy and curriculum specifically designed to teach critical thinking, creative thinking and effective communication, combined with a technology platform built in service to the science of learning, Minerva is making higher education more accessible and affordable for the brightest and most motivated students from around the world. Minerva formed an alliance with Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) to establish the Minerva Schools at KGI in 2013, a WASC-accredited, residential, four-year, undergraduate institution.
Position Description
If you are right for this role, you are an experienced marketer who is passionate about education, building a university, and building Minerva for the long-term. You have had significant stints in consumer brand marketing with direct responsibility for breakthrough public relations efforts. The person for this role will lead at the strategic level and drive implementation at the tactical level while partnering with the Creative, Product and Regional teams to execute on Minerva's marketing and communications strategy. The right candidate will be a strategic, creative thinker with extensive experience crafting, building and managing brands and programs that engage broad audiences, build brand relevance, and deliver against quantitative metrics.
Role Specifics:
Develop and drive a comprehensive strategic marketing plan that ties directly to organizational goals and objectives
Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications program to broaden Minerva's awareness and thought leadership
Direct international public relations efforts and cultivate meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level external audiences, including the media and key influencers
Drive a wide variety of marketing programs, both offline and online, that specifically speak to prospective students promoting interest in applying and completing applications
Develop plans for Minerva's different strategic initiatives including the Minerva Academy, the Minerva Prize and Minerva Publishing
Oversee CRM efforts and all on-going communication streams
Manage programs from kickoff through execution, partnering with cross-functional team members to ensure alignment on strategy, brand, and execution logistics
Work with strategic partners to develop relevant programming and partnerships, driving prospective student engagement
Drive development of marketing collateral materials and electronic communications
Manage the marketing function including budgeting, planning and staff development
Qualifications:
Strong brand background; deep appreciation and understanding of brand value and experience making trade-offs in service to brand
Extensive foundation in marketing communications
Global experience
Motivated by business objectives; proven success driving growth and scale
Experience crafting and then executing breakthrough marketing programs
Exceptional project management and organizational skills, with ability to independently manage projects from end���to���end
Passionate about community building
Savvy about content, digital channels and social media
Excellent writer and editor
Looks for creative approaches to complex problems
Self aware and flexible; able to execute with ambiguity
Able to make a small budget stretch for miles
Entrepreneurial, capable of taking a risk
Great people manager as well as natural at team collaboration
15+ years of relevant experience at highly valued brand-oriented organization
Bachelor's degree required, preferably from a top institution; MBA or advanced degree preferred
