Departmental Overview
Serves as the primary manager of a unit or department. Manages human, financial, and often physical resources, and develops procedures and processes to attain unit goals. Assists in formulating and administering policies and programs for the campus and functions with autonomy. Represents the unit at campus meetings or committees. Manages the accountability and stewardship of campus resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental and campus wide goals and objectives. Ensures subordinate supervisors and professionals adhere to defined internal controls. Manages systems and procedures to protect departmental assets.
Manages specific visual communications programs and/or projects, has comprehensive responsibility for visual communications for External Relations Advancement Marketing and Communications. Manages the visual communications budget.
Responsibilities
• Works with clients and/or administration and other communication professionals to develop and create visual communications in conjunction with implementation of broader long and short term strategic communications plans and/or projects such as Campaign materials for all campus units, view books, various client visual programs.
• Selects, trains, manages, leads, directs, guides, motivates, and as necessary takes corrective action, with assigned staff who are responsible for producing visual communication pieces.
• Ensures delivery of quality visual products that effectively deliver the desired message within budget and time constraints
Required Qualifications
• Five years of successfully managing a team of designers.
• Strong knowledge of all aspects of visual communications, and/or sufficient knowledge and understanding of technical applications and their capabilities to effectively manage/supervise professional technical staff, including design concepts, various media, applications, strategic planning, et cetera.
• Expert web design skills.
• Strong knowledge of the campus, including its mission, vision, goals, policies, practices and infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge and skills in financial and personnel administration and management techniques, including understanding of guiding principles, relevant laws, policies and practices.
• Strong knowledge of the trends and developments in the visual communications field.
• Strong written, verbal, interpersonal communications and active listening skills.
• Strong political acumen, analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Strong skill in problem recognition, avoidance and resolution.
• Strong project management and strategic planning skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Education/Training:
• Bachelors degree in related area
Common problems solved by the employee:
• Art direction or provide initial design structure of marketing communications projects that come into the department
• Work with clients and designers on maintaining visual brand
• Design any incoming print materials and web visuals
Unusual or complex problems solved by the employee:
• Elaborate formats and structures for a capital campaign
• Identity Systems, style guides for clients and campus
• Design a three-dimentional structure such as a donor wall on campus
Problems/situations that are referred to this employee���s supervisor:
• Prioritization if there are too many conflicting projects
• Coordination making a complex visual project meet Supervisor's vision or needs
Any unclear situation regarding financial and or creative responsibility for projects
Salary Benefits
The salary range for this position is $100,000.00 - $130,000.00.
