[JIMSJOBS] Director of Development, San Francisco, Ca.

 

The Director of Development will provide strategic and management leadership on all development duties, including special events, funding, individual giving/annual fund, and major gifts. In addition, this position will be responsible for foundation, grant and corporate funding along with owning a small portfolio of campaign gift prospects. The Director will also supervise three fundraisers.

                                                               

Essential Functions:

 

The following are primary duties related to this position:

 

• In conjunction with the VP, review, revise, and implement the annual and long-term development strategy, providing insight and direction on each pillar of development, (i.e., individual giving/major donors, planned giving, foundations, government, corporations, and special events), and helping to define a strategy for ongoing growth of the donor base.

 

• Manage three fundraisers including two major gift officers and an annual fund director.

 

• Play a leadership role in the client’s capital campaigns. .

 

• In coordination with MarCom, drive development-related publications such as alumni magazine, newsletters, annual reports, fundraising appeals, e-mail based communications, and other communication channels.

 

• Support other organizational and program work as appropriate.

 

• Represent the VP in her absence at university meetings and events where appropriate.

 

• Other related duties as required.

Qualifications, Education & Experience:

The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:

• Eight or more years of work experience with three or more years in a development leadership role.

• Experience with annual and long-term fundraising

• Experience with strategic planning, goal setting and performance management, both for individual performance and a team

• Experience in all forms of fundraising and development in a non-profit (501(c)3) environment required; higher education experience preferred.

• Demonstrated success leading a development program, or significant components of a development program outside the annual fund.

• Ability to delegate, supervise and manage team of professional development staff

• Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in philanthropy/major gifts, including social media and crowd funding

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required.
