Our client is seeking a BI Analyst for a six month contract to hire opportunity located in Irving, TX.
Job Description:
As a Business Intelligence Analyst, you will work closely with solution architects, project managers, management, technical staff and customers to create an end to end data warehousing solution integrating multiple IT service management databases. They would provide design expertise in the areas of data warehousing, analytics, BI metrics and reporting. The BI Analyst would manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting project milestones and conform to established ticket SLAs. Individual would be responsible for project documentation, best practice recommendations and post code review performance optimizations. You will be part of a 7x24 Operations team so it is essential that you have expertise with MS SQL Server 2005/2008/2012 including design/architecture, best practices, installation, troubleshooting, performance tuning and administration.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic best practices on design, availability, replication, security, audit, and backup/recovery methodologies.
- Continuously re-evaluate the infrastructure for opportunities for optimization.
- Evaluate options and design architecture solution for backend database environments and web-based systems in order to support business, technical, and service-level objectives.
- Support the development of strategy, frameworks, best practices and patterns working with architects from other IT functions.
- Define and communicate the technical roadmap and lifecycle for the components and systems supported by the database team.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technology standards, industry trends, emerging technologies, and software development best practices. Perform proof-of-concept evaluations to assess capabilities and appropriate fit within architecture.
- Develop database performance benchmarks and optimize database performance through new features/technologies and refactoring.
- Enact processes for constantly improving the performance, scalability, extensibility, interoperability, reliability, availability, and usability of the database architecture. Review and revise designs according to changing business and technical conditions to continue to meet or exceed service-level objectives.
- Create and manage database metrics for trending including performance, capacity, inventory optimization, and infrastructure design.
- Monitor key performance indicators and design/revise solutions or enhancements to improve/maintain performance/productivity at acceptable levels.
- Manage internal and external customer relationships, inform and advise project managers and stakeholders about project plans and implementations
- Monitor database performance, identify performance problems and make adjustments to database parameters as needed. Monitor CPU, memory and space usage of existing databases, and project future usage for current and planned databases.
- Analyze system performance, database performance, system health checks and implement tuning improvements.
- Create and maintain documentation around database topology, architecture, processes and procedures.
- Competency in the design and implementation of data marts and data warehouses.
- Build, revise and support various reporting systems and their reports.
- Design functional processes that adhere to CDS product standards.
- Assist with capacity planning and resource expansion through data aggregation and analysis
- Design and deploy data table structures in compliance with CDS database specifications.
- Work with other team members to develop processes to support data management and business intelligence.
- Develop automated database solutions using the applicable database tools or packages.
- Work with project managers to ensure that reports and metrics identify business needs and opportunities for process improvement.
Requirements:
- Competent and highly motivated - high sense of ownership of problems and requests assigned, focused on managing and resolving issues.
- Ability to comprehend system functionality and become a subject matter expert of the underlying application data.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2012.
- Hands-on SQL Server installation and configuration experience.
- Strong MSSQL Server database analysis, design, development, testing, and trouble-shooting skills.
- Expert competency with Microsoft BI tool stack, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS and Power View.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- 3+ years of work experience in SQL server creating complex queries.
- Working technical experience with designing, developing and supporting multi-terabyte database environments.
- Scripting and high language programming experience
- 4-year degree in computer science or equivalent experience in the technology industry.
- Microsoft Certifications a plus: MCTS/MCITP Database Administration, Database Analyst, or Business Intelligence Analyst.
- Experience with MS SQL, MySQL, Oracle, SCOM, SCCM and Cognos.
