The Virtualization Engineer will be responsible for project and technical leadership of infrastructure projects to ensure that business goals and objectives of programs or functional areas are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters. The candidate is expected to assist peers through training and mentoring while focusing on organization's success.
The successful candidate will have an in-depth understanding of industry leading virtualization technologies from both an architectural design and engineering perspective. The candidate must demonstrate technical capabilities and solution offerings for virtualization in the Data Center, Branch Offices, on the Desktop, and in the Cloud.
The Virtualization Engineer will work closely with the IT Operations Virtualization team to enhance virtualization performance, monitoring and define support best practices in the enterprise
•Design, and implement virtualization solutions to enhance existing Data Center, Desktop, Cloud strategies.•Develop complete virtualization solutions taking into account sizing, infrastructure, data protection, disaster recovery, and application requirements.•Provide knowledge transfer and training to IT Operations resources•Provide expertise in troubleshooting virtualization and O.S. performance issues•Create Operational Turnover, Architectural Design and other supporting configuration documentation.•Take a leadership role in defining virtualization strategy •Continue enhancements to virtualization solutions taking into account infrastructure, data protection, high availability, resource management, automation, disaster recovery, and application requirements.•Demonstrate a clear understanding and expertise for deployment of networking technologies in a virtualized environment.•Effectively communicate solutions architecture to project teams by creating and delivering presentations and/or training.•Provide vendor evaluation and technical reviews and reviews of potential products for their technical performance and capabilities.•Stay up to date on emerging technologies and products, including attaining certifications and participation in industry events as appropriate.•Bring new ideas and methodologies to improve the department.QualificationsQualifications
· 7+ years experience as a systems engineer (Linux Red Hat)
· 4+ years experience managing Virtualization projects
· 4+ years technical experience with VMWare and/or Citrix (Design, migration and implementation)
· Understand new technology concepts quickly and assist others in understanding.
· VMware current certifications, VCP on VI3/vSphere a plus,
· Certifications on other Virtualization Technologies (Hyper-V, Xen) is a plus
· Virtualization specialty certifications, Lab Manager, Site Recovery Manager, VDI (View), Life Cycle Automation, are a plus
· 3+ years hands on experience with one or more of the following: Linux, Windows or Solaris (Red Hat Linux)
· Excellent communication and documentation skills
· Preferred Bachelors degree in Computer Science, MIS or a related field
