Human Resources Director for Claims position – Travelers Insurance – Hartford, Connecticut

SUMMARY:
As a member of the Claim and Enterprise IT HR teams, this position is accountable for leading and driving results for the human resource function for the Claim IT organization. The HR Director will partner with Claim IT leadership in the development and execution of business plans and strategies. This Director will provide consulting, resolution and implementation support on a variety of topics including workforce planning, compensation, employee relations, talent acquisition, retention, talent development and organizational design and effectiveness.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create and manage strong business advisory relationships by maintaining a thorough understanding of the organization and business priorities and driving talent strategies in support of these priorities. This includes I knowledge of Claim priorities and understanding of flexible staffing strategies.
Assures that Human Resources services delivered directly or indirectly are necessary, cost effective and in support of the business plans.
Leads the human resources planning effort within the customer groups to ensure that there
are adequate numbers of trained staff to accomplish business objectives and that appropriate
Human resource systems are in place to select, reward, train and motivate staff. Encourages
progressive management and leadership characteristics and empowered staff by providing
needed tools.
Participate as an active member of the matrixed IT HR Leadership Team.
Cultivate effective relationships across the IT and IT HR communities and ensure communication and alignment of HR strategies and practices across the enterprise where possible.
Create strong employee advocacy and relationships by engaging with employees and demonstrating an objective perspective in support of their success.
Ensure proactive engagement on all employee relations initiatives to ensure fair, equitable treatment of employees and administration of policies and procedures
In conjunction with other human resources staff, participates in the development of
necessary policies and practices to ensure that they are consistent with overall corporate
direction and in support of customer group plans.
Lead the performance management process- ensuring training, coaching and feedback and performance discipline actions are comprehensive and delivered in a timely manner to improve organizational performance.
Design and implement effective recruitment, workforce planning and retention strategies.
Drive talent management and succession planning strategies to ensure adequate preparation for current and future needs of the business.
Act as change agent to the business supporting the design and establishment of new organizational capabilities and services.
Responsible for administration and management of compensation strategies for the organization to include salary action planning, incentive compensation program administration and reward and recognition programs
Establishes and participates in industry and other professional networks to stay abreast of social, economic and other trends that may affect the business or direction of human resources policies and programs, and monitors and analyzes data and trends to identify potential opportunities that could impact business results.
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE:
College degree in Human Resources related area or equivalent.
Seasoned human resource professional with 10+ plus years combined experience in Human Resources, business and/or consulting with majority of experience preferred in a generalist position.
OTHER:
Extensive knowledge of human resources including organizational development as well asbusiness and strategic acumen.
History of quickly building relationships, gaining credibility and partnering with leaders and human resource peers.
Experience working in a matrix environment preferred.
Knowledge of property casualty insurance helpful.
Experience with technology organizations helpful. Some travel required.
