Snowflake, based in San Mateo, Ca is a venture-backed startup in stealth-mode that believes that once you cut through all of the big data hype, there's a huge problem with current data platforms that no one has solved, one that we have a unique vision for how to address. We have brought together a team of some of the brightest minds in the business to build a next-generation data warehouse for the cloud era, one that will dramatically alter what organizations can do with their data and how they do it. Snowflake is looking for a startup-savvy Director of Finance to join our team.
The Director of Finance will report directory to the CEO and will oversee accounting and financial activities at Snowflake. This person will have broad responsibility to evolve and scale the systems, processes, and team to enable Snowflake's growth, ensuring that Snowflake has world class practices to support our world class business. That means not only being responsible for accounts receivable, accounts payable, accounting, and payroll, but also being a critical part of financing activities, financial planning, compliance efforts, back-office infrastructure, and human resources. We need someone who has the breadth of skills and experience that are needed to make a startup successful--someone who can drive evaluation of billing software one day, refine accrual policies the next, and prepare financial information to potential investors doing financial due diligence the following day. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting skills; experience with the software and systems that support account, billing, and finance; and experience evaluating and negotiating with vendors for everything from software to benefits. The person we're looking for thrives in the dynamic environment that comes with being part of an innovative startup from its early days. That means having the flexibility and willingness to jump in and get done what needs to be done to make Snowflake successful, and it means working collaboratively with a broad range of people both inside and outside the company.
Responsibilities: Work in a cross-functional and collaborative role spanning accounting, finance, billing operations, tax, and human resources. Maintain and evolve chart of accounts. Oversee periodic accounting cycle and reports. Negotiate and manage contracts and costs with key vendors. Develop and maintain operational budget, financial reporting, cash flow analysis, and financial forecasts. Put in place and evolve software, systems, and processes to support accounting, financial planning, accounts receivable, and billing. Oversee human resources, including benefits plans, in conjunction with Snowflake's human resources and benefits vendors.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Accounting or a related field. CPA (Certified Public Accountant). 10+ years of overall experience, with at least 5 years of experience in a Controller or Director of Finance or similar role. Experience preparing all monthly, quarterly, and year end close financial statements, schedules and supporting entries. Experience managing areas including billing, cash receipts, collections, insurance, payroll, commissions, and accounts payable. A current and deep understanding of current US GAAP accounting principles, particularly as applied to SaaS (software as a service) companies. Experience with back-office software and systems for accounting, billing, and financial planning (e.g. Zuora, NetSuite, GreatPlains, etc.).
