Main Responsibilities
Be the principal intermediary between insurance clients and the RMS modeling teams in the design and calibration of technical Catastrophe loss modeling solutions - principally focusing on models for earthquake and other earth hazards.
Develop and document the technical requirements for model development, working closely with the internal RMS model developers and client users of models.
Ensure that the technical requirements for what gets developed closely match client needs for model utility and scientific model credibility.
Gain the trust of key clients so that they can work in technical collaborative partnership with RMS modelers
Successfully function as a team player with RMS Model Development.
Work to ensure that the new or upgraded Catastrophe model proves successful – technically and financially.
Develop and write technical reports focused on communicating the integrated modeling understanding of catastrophe risk.
Job Requirements
Higher degree (preferably PhD) in earth hazards or earthquake engineering research.
At least 2 years postgraduate experience of working on the applications of scientific and engineering knowledge.
Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Experience with GIS and database modeling tools.
Experience of working with the insurance industry would be an asset but is not essential.
The candidate needs to be very well-organized and with a demonstrated interest in managing processes.
A strong and persuasive communicator as evidenced by experience at giving presentations.
Excellent writing skills with examples of previous publications.
Ability to travel (for a few days every couple of months) to principal insurance and reinsurance centers and RMS international offices.
