Senior Project Accountant:
The role will be part of the Finance team based in Alameda, CA and will directly assist the Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis for the Professional Services and Solutions organizations worldwide.
This position will assist project managers located worldwide in both administrative and financial aspects of managing their projects, including; project set up; billing; related worksheets and reports for some large projects; communication with project managers regarding their milestone status; and communications with some clients.
While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to thrive in a fast-paced work environment involving multiple priorities/tasks and dealing with different cultures worldwide. The employee will be required to make judgment decisions and adapt to changing work situations, grasp and apply new ideas, communicate with various personalities at all levels and have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Oversee the day-to-day functions: contract review for booking, billings and payment terms in accordance with client requirements, collections, revenue recognition, month-end close and operational issues
• Effectively communicate with Project Managers and Program Managers, regarding contract documents, change orders and other contract modifications, approvals, and any additional services-related to billing.
• Work with the cash receipts team member to reconcile variances that occur in the application of cash.
• Research and resolve escalated billing inquires from customers
• Drive initiatives to improve processes that increase productivity, quality, service and increased cash flow
• Monthly reconciliation of unbilled and deferred accounts and preparation of monthly journal entries to clear any issues.
• Research any unbilled issues to optimize the billing possibilities for the billing period
• Prepare monthly aging report dashboard for the executive team
• Assist with quarterly invoice forecast
• Ensure that SOX controls and reporting requirements are properly executed
• Responsible for any ad-hoc requests from client groups in finance and other functional areas
Education and Experience:
• Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or related area desired
• Five to Seven years experience in a professional service firm such as consulting, architecture, engineering and/or planning, with at least two years as a supervisor
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounts
• Strong understanding of the accounting and project life cycle
• Advanced Excel skills

• Able to reconcile customer concerns, issues and disputes in order to maintain ongoing relationships
• Able to build relationships with both internal and external customers
• Strong business acumen and knowledge of ERP system including Oracle 11i e-Business suite
• Functional knowledge of Oracle 11i e-Business suite with particular focus on Project Billing (not required but preferred)
• Working knowledge of Oracle Discoverer tool
