Once you've passed that hurdle, you need to concentrate on #2:

Does it Pass the 10 Second Test?


Imagine a desk or inbox cluttered with hundreds or even thousands of résumés.

That's the situation facing every gatekeeper in the job application process: external and internal recruiters, human resource screeners, etc.

It's the screener's job to review those stacks and determine which are worth passing on to the next stage in the process. There's no way they are going to carefully read every document. How much time do you think they give to any one résumé in their initial screening?

Obviously it varies, but it's not very long. Your job is to make that 1st 10 seconds count, so that the reader decides yours is worth investing the time to read further.
