Title: Social Media and Internet Marketing Internship

Pay Level: $500/month for 8 hours/week

This is non-permanent contractor position. This position is located in the Monterey / Santa Cruz / San Jose, CA area.
Job Description:
An indie alt-country, Americana folk blues music label is looking to contract an intern with strong knowledge and understanding of the music and music fan community digital media landscape, including various social media channels. The company is currently redesigning its website (converting to Wordpress), and would like to launch a more focused, aggressive social media campaign. The Company is also looking to standardize at CDBaby to leverage all the tools they have to offer. This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in working with an established music artist, small label, learning B2C music marketing and making a difference.

The intern for this position will need strong critical thinking, communication, and writing skills and a self-starter work ethic to develop and integrate with our passionate team and drive the current social media activities to the next level. The job includes designing and executing the overall social media strategy for 2013/2014 including promotions, polls, daily publishing of past blog posts, bylines, interviews, and event reviews etc. as well as contributing to the website redesign project in various ways. In this work the successful candidate will be closely involved in the roll-out of a new CD and four campaigns in 2014 on a global basis.

• Facebook: Repost interesting stories from industry friends, gigs and event reviews, event promotions, launch polls and make the content richer. Complete the build out of the Facebook page including adding graphics. Develop creative ways to drive 'likes' and followers within Americana/Folk/Blues/Alt-Country target audiences.
• Blogs: Identify relevant, current 3rd music blog posts (that are highly trafficked) where NoBullSongs should post a response, and identify other opportunities for link and music syndication.
• Twitter: On a daily basis (or scheduled via HootSuite) create tweet content, respond to tweets, RT where appropriate and follow leading artists and leading thought leaders in the same market. Conduct polls, tweetchats, drive additional followers who are not spammers, and develop creative and interesting ways to engage with our audiences.
• Pinterest: Develop a NoBullSongs and a KennyButterill page to drive traffic to NBS web pages.
• Manage keywords and social media optimization and backlink building to raise our web presence and placement on web searches.
• Add photos for upload or distribution, maintain an organized catalog of pictures.
• Manage YouTube account including video of gigs, video and audio editing skills and uploading of videos and audio are required.
• Prepare and keep current an Electronic Press Kit (EPK) on a monthly basis.
• Manage CDBaby, ReverbNation and develop a virtual store of promotional items.

Requirements:
• Students applying for this internship should be Music, PR, or Communications major.
• 3 B2C years experience on the Web as well as an interest in B2C music business.
• Proficient in Wordpress, HTML, Google Adwords, HootSuite, Word.
• 1-2 years SEO experience with a recording artist / record label is preferred
• If you play music, please let us know the type of music you like.
• This position can be remotely located.

Reporting Relationship:

This position reports directly to the President of the label.
The position will collaborate with other members of the indie label.

Must-Haves:
1. Highly organized, very detailed and an excellent communicator by email, phone and chat.
2. Able to successfully and simultaneously manage tasks of a broad variety in a timely and efficient manner.
3. Strong interest in the music industry, specifically band promotion.
4. Self-confident enough to know when to ask for help and mature enough to realize that missed deadlines impact the business, our partners and other people's deadlines.
5. Self-disciplined, able to work independently, proficient in time management and self-starter looking to grow in the B2C/music marketing industry.
6. Positive attitude and history of strong work ethic.
7. Appropriate work space from which to work as well as a computer, printer and internet connection.
8. Be able to provide examples of prior relevant work products and 3 non-academic references.
