The Marketing Director will manage ongoing implementation and evolution of Museum's Marketing Plan, tactical timeline and associated budget. Specific tasks include:
Media Relations:
o Pitches and secures local, regional, national and international electronic and print media coverage, reviews, and listings of exhibitions, public programs, fundraising and special events
o Develop/maintain media contact list (radio, television, newspaper, magazine, and online)
o Maintain media relationships with art editors/critics, writers, reporters and bloggers
o Write, produce, distribute press releases, other press materials as appropriate
o Develop and pitch story ideas; support interviews with museum spokespeople
o Monitors and tracks media coverage, archives and distributes media clips, prepares summary reports as necessary.
o Maintain press kits, clip files
Social Media:
o Develops social media strategies that support public engagement in the museum´s programs.
o Maintains social media network Museum sites: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr
Event/exhibit publicity:
o Manage creation and distribution of exhibit invitation cards
o Publicize special events including management of email announcements
o Manage Online Calendar listings with various sites
Collateral:
o Develop/maintain core collateral pieces: museum overview, membership brochure, education brochure, caring for quilts guide, etc.
o Manage production of exhibit-specific collateral: invitation cards, gallery guides, catalogs
o Manage production of event-specific collateral: invitations, signage, give-a-ways
o Design in-house print materials (using Adobe Create Suite software)
Coordination of visual materials:
o Manage and take/shoot on-site video and photo shoots
o Manage visual assets and storage/archive
o Edit photos and video
Advertising:
o Identify and evaluate promotional opportunities
o Manage production, placement of advertising
Newsletter:
o Coordinate the writing and support the production of a quarterly newsletter with the assistance of a volunteer
o Manage online distribution
Community outreach/Events:
o Maintains network of contacts with counterparts at museums locally and Bay Area arts organizations.
o Represent museum at public venues, Downtown Association, Make Art Here and SOFA district meetings
o Secure relationships with other arts-related outlets, i.e. links on their websites, etc.
o Plan and provide event support for South First Fridays and Salon art activities
Other tasks include:
o Manage marketing activities in support of fund development and membership growth
o Conduct surveys and market studies in support of visitor experience, communications, programs/workshops and pricing
o Secure and maintain relationships with print, online and design vendors
o Manage and track marketing budget for all exhibitions and departmental expenditures
o Develop web site content, manage timely updates with the assistance of website contractor
o Write, produce and distribute email blast (via Campaigner using Dreamweaver)
And other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications/ Job Requirements
Bachelor´s degree preferred with a minimum of two years experience in marketing. Marketing for the arts experience preferred.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), use of the Internet for research, and managing informational systems. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver), Campaigner (or other email distribution program).
Demonstrated ability to organize, plan, and complete activities while independently motivated to meet specific timelines and goals.
Excellent writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills. Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines. Close attention to detail and enthusiastic follow-through.
