To help cut to the chase, the key qualifications are:
(a) Java
(b) Linux
(c) A scripting language (any one of Unix Shell, Python, Perl, Ruby, PHP, etc.).

Everything else is optional, particularly Big Data (i.e., Hadoop) knowledge and experience.  We train all new hires on Hadoop technologies.

As a Data Engineer you will:
  • Design and develop code, scripts and data pipelines that leverage structured and unstructured data integrated from multiple sources
  • Perform software installation and configuration
  • Participate in requirements and design workshops with our clients
  • Develop project deliverable documentation

Qualifications

Do you have amazing engineering skills such as:
  • Experience programming in Java
  • Experience with Unix
  • Familiarity with other programming languages (Python, C, C++, etc.)
  • Background which includes mathematics, statistics, machine learning and data mining
  • Experience building complex and non-interactive systems (batch, distributed, etc.)
  • Experience with SQL, NoSQL, relational database design and methods
  • Prior work/research experience with unstructured data and data modeling
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
