Video Coding Research Architect, Next Generation

 

Job Description    

Working with a team of video coding experts and industry professionals in the development of next generation of video coding technologies and standards, such as extensions for High Efficient Video Coding (HEVC), the Research Engineer will play a key role in the design and development of new coding tools that will outperform the state of the art video coding technologies such as the current HEVC Version 1 and its test model (HM), as well as MPEG-AVC/H.264. The Research Engineer will also be involved in developing codec optimization algorithms for rate control, coding mode decision, motion estimation, encoding/decoding parallelization, etc., that are targeted at various real-time video interactive communications applications.

Qualifications

·         Profound understanding of the existing video coding technologies and standards, such as HEVC, MPEG2, MPEG-AVC/H.264 and its SVC and MVC and SCC extensions

·         Capability to develop and promote new and better coding tools for the future video coding standards, such as MPEG, ITU-T, and others

·         Capability to develop encoding optimization algorithms

·         Capability to use multi-core/threading technologies for real-time codec implementation

·         Very effective communicator with proven track record of delivering high quality, on time projects

·         Ability to meet deadlines and commitments in a fast paced environment

·         Strong attention to details, and proactive, motivated and able to work as a team player

·         Ph. D. or MS degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent certifications plus experience

Experience

·         Essential hands-on experience in developing video coding algorithms for better compression efficiency, encoding optimization algorithms for rate control and mode decision and motion estimation, encoding/decoding simplification and parallelization algorithms for real-time codec

·         Solid understanding of MPEG and other video/image coding standards

·         Solid understanding of HM, JM, KTA, and other codec platforms

·         Solid understanding of digital video and its key characteristics

·         Experience in video codec implementation

Required Skills

·         2+ years video coding research overall, particularly with HEVC, MPEG2, and MPEG-AVC/H.264

·         Fluent in one or more of: C++/C, Java, Perl, Python, etc.

·         1+ years of video codec design and implementation
